Miss Mylla's Saloon

Miss Mylla's Saloon, a combined entertainment venue and inn, was situated in the city of Bartyn's Landing within the Lamaredd region. This establishment, owned and operated by the attractive and shrewd Miss Mylla, offered various forms of amusement and was the most frequented spot in the Center Sphere District during the final decades of the Galactic Republic.

History

Sometime before 69 BBY, Miss Mylla, a captivating female Falleen of unknown origins, journeyed to Lamaredd aboard a passenger vessel. She was accompanied by a group of Falleen bodyguards and, for as long as anyone could recall, by the large Chagrian known as "Bantha" Burloo.

Miss Mylla set her sights on the uninspiring building that functioned as the local inn and proceeded to purchase it. Quickly, she renovated and transformed the building into "Miss Mylla's Saloon," a business operating 24/7 and offering a range of services. Patrons could savor a quality drink served by the beautiful, scantily-dressed waitresses —her companions from her travels— or partake in gambling at the tables, while enjoying music and conversation. It also functioned as an affordable lodging. Furthermore, the waitresses provided a clandestine additional service, discreetly referred to as "the work," to select groups in the private rooms located on the upper level. Burloo himself ensured security simply by his constant presence at the entrance; he rarely needed to physically remove anyone.

From the outset, the establishment flourished, and Miss Mylla's Saloon became the most popular and bustling enterprise in the Center Sphere District — although Nyubuna Bulul's The Even Cut Sabacc Parlor and Casino, located directly across the street, offered a competing option solely for gambling. Before long, Miss Mylla found herself needing more staff, whom she referred to as "her girls."

The courtesans also served as waitresses, with some favoring one role over the other. Aware that intoxicated and overly excited customers might disregard boundaries, Miss Mylla ensured that patrons treated "her girls" with proper respect, providing each of them with a knife — in addition to Burloo's ever-watchful eye.

Miss Mylla also supported her employees in pursuing lives beyond their work at the saloon. When any of them wished to leave, Miss Mylla arranged for them to receive off-world education in another field and, in at least one instance, facilitated the marriage of a fortunate girl to a Falleen prince. These former employees consistently regarded Mylla as their protector.

Around 29 BBY, several prominent citizens of the Landing frequented the establishment, including Grubber Vapps, the Security Chief's Senior Second, Mix Liddell, the Security Chief —who maintained a personal romantic relationship with Miss Mylla— and Guther Bartyn, the mayor of the town council, the Administrator of the local mines, the owner of Bartyn Gourmet Delicacies, and a regular visitor to the upper floor.

Around that same period, one of the working girls decided to pursue a different path, with Miss Mylla readily agreeing that the Human woman was not suited for that line of work. Miss Mylla arranged for her departure, sending her as a package to a legitimate business partner of Miss Mylla in the remote Cape Regret.

Shortly after the public resurgence of the believed-extinct Menahuun species, two of Miss Mylla's girls vanished along with their customer in the lowlands of Maw range. She acknowledged that such incidents had occurred before, but she was nonetheless concerned.

Concurrently, shipments of Corellian brandy destined for the Saloon were being confiscated by corrupt spaceport security officers for their personal gain. Miss Mylla suspected the situation —although she remained unaware of the existence of an organized smuggling operation— but she declined to seek assistance from Chief Lidell again, as the matter could potentially create conflict with his superiors.

Due to a chain of events, Lidell employed a group of outsiders as his new Seconds. He suggested that they reside at Miss Mylla's Saloon, offering to cover the cost of their rooms — and nothing more.

Behind the scenes

The character of Miss Mylla's Saloon was conceived by the writer Cory J. Herndon and was presented in both the article titled Bartyn's Landing and the role-playing adventure titled Reckonings. Both were featured in the magazine Star Wars Gamer #7 which was released in 2001.

Alternate ending

The article presumes that the player characters in Reckonings manage to achieve the optimal outcome. However, should they fail, the adventure provides an alternative narrative that unfolds during an all-out war between the Menahuun and the inhabitants of Bartyn's Landing. In this scenario, as the city transforms into a war zone, Miss Mylla departs Bartyn's Landing and her Saloon with the intention of beginning a new life in Little Mon Cal.
