During the time of the Galactic Empire's rule, a mission was launched to Batuu, which subsequently led to a fight in Oga's Cantina, located on the planet of Batuu. This fight involved Grand Admiral Thrawn, Darth Vader, and a contingent of Darshi. The Grysk had employed the Darshi with the intention of creating a diversion for Vader and Thrawn, so the Grysk could evacuate Force-sensitive Chiss children from a residence situated in Black Spire Outpost.
The Imperial capital ship named Chimaera made a hyperspace jump to Batuu to investigate the source and nature of a disturbance in the Force that had been perceived by Emperor Palpatine. While the Chimaera was positioned above Batuu, Sensor officer Commander Hammerly identified four small transports in a loose formation above the planet. These, combined with the six starships already present on Batuu's surface, totaled ten vessels. Commodore Karyn Faro engaged in conversation with Hammerly as the Chimaera's crew worked to gather as much data as possible on the ships, concluding that they might be either small freighters or small warships. As the information gathering continued, two additional ships materialized from hyperspace directly ahead of the Chimaera at a distance of 400,000 kilometers. Hammerly determined that these were, at minimum, a type of long-range heavy freighter, and were heading straight for Batuu. Faro speculated that all the unidentified ships were en route to Black Spire Outpost, where Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader were conducting their investigation.
Hammerly noticed that the two newly arrived starships had emerged from hyperspace from the same hyperlane the Chimaera had used. Shortly before a confrontation occurred on Batuu involving Thrawn and Vader against a group of Darshi, one of the heavy freighters began moving towards Thrawn and Vader's location, while the remaining ships remained in orbit above Batuu. Vader instructed Commander Kimmund and his unit to intercept, scrutinize, and engage the other heavy freighter.
Soon after the skirmish, Kimmund and his stormtroopers approached the heavy freighter aboard the Darkhawk. However, the Grysk ship detected the Darkhawk and broke away from its orbit. Defender Squadron One then arrived, managing to thwart its escape by disabling the starship, and subsequently drove off the other smaller transports.
Kimmund and his legion succeeded in capturing several Grysk, which resulted in a brief skirmish onboard the Chimaera.
