A mission unfolded on the shadowport of Mek-Sha circa 3627 BBY, forming a part of the broader conflict between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic.
The Republic dispatched a fleet, under the command of Vice-Admiral Dol Narlock, a key figure in the defense of Corellia. This fleet paused at Mek-Sha to replenish its fuel reserves in order to continue their journey, arriving at the behest of Junker Jott, the chief engineer of the station and a former veteran of the Republic.
Concurrently, a Sith Empire detachment, under the leadership of Darth Shaar, was formulating a scheme to obliterate the Republic fleet. Their goal was to weaken the defenses of the Meridian Complex on Corellia, which the Empire was planning to destroy. However, the Empire found it impossible to prevent the Republic fleet from refueling, as the Republic would simply consolidate fuel into their most powerful warships and send them on their way, and the Sith did not have enough ships to intercept them. This left the only option to attack the Republic while they were refueling.
As fate would have it, Mek-Sha's strong independence, which it had maintained since its revolt against its Hutt overlords, was due to a failsafe implemented by the station's unofficial ruler, Huttbreaker. This failsafe could neutralize all fuel on the station and any attached vessels. The Empire recognized the potential to amplify this failsafe to annihilate the Republic ships during their planned assault.

Ultimately, the allowance of the Republic refueling required a majority agreement from Mek-Sha's five most influential crews. Jott, as a Republic sympathizer, would cast his vote in their favor, and Huttbreaker would support him for her own financial gain. However, the Brothers slaving group were known to have dealings with the Empire, and a sudden vote for the Republic would raise suspicion. The only two remaining parties capable of breaking the tie were Harido Wald and the Dar'manda.
