Darth Shaar was a female Sith who achieved the rank of Sith Lord within the Sith Empire during the period known as the Galactic War.
Shaar, a notably zealous Sith, maintained a passionate, albeit turbulent, relationship with Lord Raxxus in her younger years, specifically several decades preceding the Galactic War. This relationship eventually deteriorated, leading the Dark Council to decree a death sentence for Shaar. However, this was before Raxxus' capture by the Jedi. During the invasion of Belsavis, Shaar discovered Raxxus was among the prisoners held on Belsavis. Consequently, she sought and obtained Imperial assistance to eliminate her former lover.
Lord Shaar continued to serve the Empire for a number of years, even surviving the Eternal Empire's invasion of the known galaxy. Over this period, she rose to the rank of Darth and operated with considerable autonomy within the Empire's civil administration.
Lord Shaar possessed a cunning and pleasure-seeking nature, demonstrating exceptional skill in the intricacies of Sith politics. She understood the art of appearing non-threatening, maintaining numerous conflicting alliances until the opportune moment to strike. She relished the tangible and experiential luxuries afforded by her position within the civil administration.
Lord Shaar makes an appearance on Belsavis in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, where she tasks Imperial players with the Heroic mission "Old Enemies." Lucy Robinson provides the voice for Darth Shaar.
In scenarios where players sided with the Republic on Iokath and brought about the demise of Empress Darth Acina, it's mentioned that Shaar ascended to the Dark Council as an overseer of the Sphere of Civil Administration, taking the place of Darth Vowrawn, who, under different circumstances, would have become Emperor. Conversely, if Jace Malcom is killed instead of Acina, Shaar remains a Lord of the Sith.
Should the player choose to support the Republic in the Onslaught expansion, they will encounter Shaar at the Huttbreaker's auction. Following the Empire's assault on the Mek-Sha docks, Tau Idair observes Shaar's disappearance and speculates that she either escaped or perished amongst the Imperial shuttles that the Republic forces shot down.
If the player aligns with the Empire in the Onslaught expansion, Shaar will serve as the player's contact throughout their operations on Mek-Sha. In the event that Acina is the Empress, Shaar will be in the company of Darth Vowrawn. However, if Vowrawn holds the title of Emperor, Shaar alone will guide the Commander. If the player acts as a Saboteur for the opposing faction and sabotages Shaar's scheme to obliterate the Republic fleet, the player can instruct Lana to eliminate Shaar (and Vowrawn, if present) through decapitation.
Regardless of their gender, Imperial players have the option to flirt with her, to which she appears receptive. Furthermore, if the player flirts with Major Anri after she changes her attire, Shaar will express agreement with the player's sentiment, suggesting an interest in the Major as well.
