Tau Idair

Tau Idair was a Jedi Knight of the Jedi Order, a human female, who fought for the Galactic Republic during both the Galactic War and the subsequent conflict against the Eternal Empire. Following the Eternal Empire's unexpected assault on the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, the Jedi suffered heavy losses, forcing the survivors to seek refuge in the shadows. After enduring a harsh campaign on Mimban, Jedi Master Gnost-Dural extended an invitation to her, asking her to join him on Ossus.

Biography

Tau Idair, a female Human strong with the Force, received training from the Jedi Order from a young age in the ways of the Jedi. Gifted in lightsaber combat, Idair crafted her own lightsaber with a green blade as part of her training, and she constantly modified and improved it over time. Before the Galactic War, Idair achieved the rank of Jedi Knight and went on to battle the Sith Empire. In 3640 BBY during that war, her first assignment stationed her on Corellia. During the fighting, a Sith boarded her transport and quickly killed five of her closest friends with his two lightsabers before she could react. Idair retaliated, killing the Sith brutally, beating him with her bare hands when he attacked the pilot, then throwing him out of the ship with his own grenade in his mouth. This event had a profound impact on her, causing her to question her worth as a Jedi.

Later, Idair fought back against the Eternal Empire after their invasion of both the Sith Empire, the Jedi Order, and the Galactic Republic. The Jedi ranks were decimated during the Empire's campaign, with the remaining Jedi, including Grand Master Satele Shan, going into hiding or disappearing to regroup. Idair eventually found herself fighting alongside Jedi Master Gnost-Dural in a protracted campaign in the swamps of Mimban, where they were among the few survivors. Following this, Idair accepted Gnost-Dural's invitation to join him on Ossus, choosing not to walk her path alone. For the first two years, she focused on relaxing, constantly worried about an attack. During this time, she assisted in recruiting others to their colony, which soon included the experienced doctor Archiban Frodrick Kimble and the Jedi Knight Nadia Grell.

However, Idair's concerns were validated. In 3628 BBY, with a Sith invasion force led by Darth Malora approaching, Tau began to help defend the colony. It was at this time that General Daeruun contacted the Alliance Commander for assistance, leading to a meeting between Idair and the Commander when she returned to report on perimeter alarms and the arrival of mutated Geonosian forces.

Tau Idair on Ossus

Gnost-Dural introduced them and asked the Commander to assist Idair in defending against the enemy. Initially hesitant, Idair claimed she didn't need help, as her lightsaber was all the backup she required. However, she agreed to the Commander's assistance and explained that the sensors had detected mutated Geonosians, led by Malora, who sought to control life itself and viewed war as a playground for her monstrosities.

Idair then mentioned the ancient ruins scattered across Ossus, which the Geonosians would use to approach unseen. She shared her plan to collapse the tunnels to stop their advance, and the Commander joined her on this mission.

After collapsing several tunnels and recovering artifacts from the ruins, Idair confided in the Commander about her experience on Corellia, expressing regret over her actions. The Commander attempted to comfort her, but Idair dismissed it and reported their progress to Gnost-Dural, who informed them of a final tunnel that needed to be collapsed to completely seal off the mutant Geonosians' hidden approaches.

Tau Idair

On their way to the final tunnel, Idair recalled that the Sith had once destroyed Ossus with a supernova, joking about how the Sith planned to top that. When the Commander asked if anyone had survived the supernova, Idair said that she and Gnost-Dural believed there were survivors, as strange things happened whenever they explored the deeper chambers of the old ruins, such as missing tools and lights, and footprints appearing where no one had walked. Idair felt a presence besides the colonists and believed they were staying hidden, which she thought was wise. The Commander changed the subject, asking what the plan would have been if the Sith hadn't attacked, and Idair said she would have gathered a team to find other Jedi and bring them back to Ossus to rebuild the Order, but she dismissed the idea, as the arrival of the Sith had forced them back into war.

After collapsing the final cave, Idair tried to contact Gnost-Dural but couldn't because the sensors were jammed before the Empire's official invasion of the planet. They returned to the colony and spoke to Gnost-Dural in person, who said that the Empire's change in tactics didn't match Malora's style, commenting on how strange the situation had become and urging the group to move quickly. He mentioned that there were still many people outside the colony, at the farms and at the library, and that they should split up to cover both areas at once. Idair jokingly told Gnost-Dural that he didn't need to pretend they had a choice on who would go where, as she knew he wanted to see the library one last time before leaving the planet. The Commander assured Gnost-Dural that they and Tau would handle the farms and meet him at the library, before giving him a direct frequency to General Daeruun. Tau sarcastically commented that she was sure the Republic would just sweep in and save the day, to which Gnost-Dural responded by saying that even if the Republic simply picked up their evacuation craft it would be a huge help.

Before the Commander and Idair left, Gnost-Dural stopped Idair to talk about her taking a padawan, despite Idair's protests that it wasn't a good time for said discussion, protests that were rebutted by Gnost-Dural who stated it was always a good time to learn, teach, and grow. Idair dismissed the idea, claiming that the Order didn't need more Jedi like her, but Gnost-Dural told her that despite her thoughts to the contrary, she wasn't a bad Jedi, and she was more than the killer she saw in herself. Idair thanked Gnost-Dural for believing in her, but claimed that she just wasn't ready, and they had more pressing matters to deal with. Gnost-Dural agreed, telling her to go check on the farms while he checked on the library, and then afterwards they'd meet up so she could select her padawan.

Idair and the Commander departed for the farms, setting up the perimeter defense turrets before going to find Nadia Grell and the other farmers. They found Nadia speaking to a man named Zaryos, who specified that they could not leave until they had downloaded their data to an astromech droid, emphasizing that they found out how to grow crops in a radioactive wasteland, and that such information would be invaluable to the Republic. Idair assured Zaryos that they had it covered, and that he should get to the shuttles so everyone could get loaded up faster. When the Commander also insisted upon it, Zaryos relented and left the data in the hands of Idair, Nadia, and the Commander, just as Imperial soldiers arrived. The three were able to fight off the Imperials and save the data, however, Idair was clearly bothered by the whole affair, as unlike the mutated Geonosians, the Imperials were not brainless monsters, but fighting them didn't feel any different to her. Even with the Commander's reassurances however, Idair still seemed shaken up, and stated that they needed to move along and get to the library to aid Gnost-Dural.

Upon arriving at the library, Idair and the Commander found it under assault by Imperial forces. Racing inside while fighting through the chaos, they found Gnost-Dural severely wounded, with Darth Malora pacing about in front of him, rambling on about trying to find something. When Idair confronted Malora, and Malora informed her that they were probably too late to help Gnost-Dural, Idair ignited her lightsaber stating that Malora had said the wrong answer. Following this, Idair and the Commander fought Malora and a number of her Geonosian mutants, ultimately defeating her. Upon her defeat, Idair discovered that Gnost-Dural was still alive, to which Malora commented that Darth Malgus must be losing his touch, revealing to the Commander that Malgus was still very much alive despite his supposed death over Ilum. Shortly thereafter, Malgus' forces flew overhead on their way to destroy the colony, but they were intercepted by Republic fighters which had just arrived on Ossus. Idair proclaimed shock and relief at this, just as the Commander was contacted by General Daeruun. Idair requested Daeruun send medics, just as Malora attempted to get away. However, Idair stopped her, saying that she never said Malora could leave, and Malora was taken prisoner by the Commander shortly thereafter.

Idair and the Commander met up with General Daeruun at the colony, who informed them of his plans for transporting the colony's evacuees to safety in Republic Space, while also establishing an outpost in the colony itself to help in keeping the planet under control. Idair questioned if they had potentially shot down Malgus and killed him, to which Daeruun expressed doubt, claiming that it was a bit too much to hope for.

Soon after, Idair expressed interest in joining up with the Republic, volunteering to aid General Daeruun in his fight against the Sith, before thanking the Commander for their help in defending Ossus and the people there. With that, Idair departed to prepare to leave the colony.

Tau Idair on Onderon

Following the Commander's, Arn Peralun's, and Aryn Leneer's return from their mission to the fallen Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, where they sought information about Darth Malgus's location, Gnost-Dural selected her as one of the Jedi to discuss the future of the Jedi Order. Gnost-Dural invited her, along with Sal-Deron and Vinyor Tesh, because he considered them to be among the most vital representatives of the Jedi Order.

Personality and traits

The constant fighting took a toll on Idair, who found it easier to fight mindless creatures than intelligent enemies. She also struggled with intense survivor's guilt after the loss of her fellow Jedi on Corellia. This made her hesitant to take on a Padawan. Gnost-Dural observed that she considered herself a "bad Jedi" because so many "good Jedi" had died in her place, and believed that she could overcome the killer she saw herself as if given the chance to teach and grow. Ultimately, Idair realized that she couldn't stand by while the Sith Empire continued to spread its evil.

Powers and abilities

Tau Idair demonstrated skill in telekinesis and Force Stun. She fought with a single-bladed green Jedi lightsaber that she frequently modified.

Gameplay alternatives

If the player chooses to ally with the Republic in the Jedi Under Siege storyline, Tau Idair temporarily joins the player as a companion during the Ossus storyline. During the battle against Darth Malora in the Jedi Library, players can choose to kill Malora, earning dark side points, instead of taking her prisoner.

On Mek-Sha during Onslaught, an Imperial character who has chosen to undermine the Empire for the Republic can say to Idair, "You have nothing to fear from me, Jedi." It is unclear if she understood the remark. A loyal Imperial can tell her she cannot win.

As an Imperial character, Idair is the final boss of the Onslaught storyline during the invasion of Corellia, and is seemingly killed when she collapses a building on herself in an attempt to kill the Alliance Commander and Darth Malgus. However, she later reappears alive in a cutscene before the Old Wounds storyline, and has a brief confrontation with Darth Rivix over a remnant of Darth Nul's lightsaber he's trying to retreive. Rivix incapacitates her by exploiting the trap on the lightsaber's display case and flees before she can recover.

Republic players can flirt with Idair regardless of gender near the end of the Jedi Under Siege storyline. They can also continue to flirt with her during Legacy of the Sith.
