Archiban Frodrick Kimble, most famously known as "Doc", was a Human male physician who served as a combat medic during the Cold War era between the Galactic Republic and the re-established Sith Empire. Later on, as the Galactic War erupted between the two galactic superpowers, he became a member of the crew led by the Jedi Knight celebrated as the Hero of Tython. Kimble was born in 3670 BBY on the planet of Ralltiir. He then attended the renowned medical program at Coruscant University, located on the Republic capital Coruscant, and ultimately graduated as a licensed xenopathologist with top honors. Despite this, Kimble abandoned his life as a doctor in the Core Worlds to provide medical assistance to those living in the Outer Rim. He adopted the moniker "Doc" and spent the next five years traveling the galaxy.
Doc's adventures often resulted in him leaving behind a string of disappointed lovers and enraged criminals. He made it his personal mission to correct injustices he encountered. Following an incident with three crime bosses on Little Kessel, Doc became an unofficial member of the Balmorran resistance, working as a medic for the freedom fighters as they fought against the Empire's occupation of Balmorra. When the Jedi Knight, known as the Hero of Tython, arrived on Balmorra for a secret mission, Doc assisted the Knight and the Republic in securing a prototype cloaking device. Subsequently, he decided to join the Jedi's crew when the Hero of Tython departed Balmorra. Alongside the Jedi's other allies, Doc supported the Hero's efforts to capture the Sith Emperor and later prevent the Emperor from using a dark side ritual to obliterate the galaxy. After the Hero vanquished the Emperor in a final confrontation, Doc and the other members of the Knight's team were awarded the Cross of Glory, the Republic's most prestigious award.

Born on the planet of Ralltiir in 3670 BBY, Archiban Frodrick Kimble, a Human male, spent his childhood on Ralltiir during the Great Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. He harbored dreams of becoming a heroic figure, overcoming impossible odds and saving the day. During the following Cold War, Kimble was given the opportunity to attend the University of Coruscant on the Republic capital of Coruscant. He enrolled in the university's medical school, known as the First Republic Medical Academy of Coruscant. While studying to become a doctor, Kimble encountered a fellow student whose medical skills and intelligence were notoriously lacking, but who was protected from expulsion by his family's wealth. Kimble began to specialize in xenopathology while also acquiring skills in combat medicine, orthodontia, and other medical fields. His classmates often accused him of receiving preferential treatment from his female instructors. Despite these accusations, Kimble graduated with highest honors, near the top of his class, in record time by 3647 BBY. To the surprise of his teachers and classmates, he vanished to the Outer Rim Territories, offering his medical services to a diverse range of clients in the most dangerous regions of the galaxy.

Adopting the alias "Doc," Kimble spent the next five years traversing the Outer Rim, delivering medical care to impoverished and hazardous star systems. During this period, Doc encountered numerous criminals and other peculiar individuals, including Fashaka Four-Toes, a disease-ridden crime lord, and Kaliyo Djannis, a Rattataki anarchist and enforcer for the Hutt Cartel. Doc's romantic involvement with Djannis was short-lived, and another relationship, with a woman named Lynlee on the planet Malastare, ended when Doc left without providing her with any credits to purchase passage off-world on a shuttle. Doc soon gained notoriety for selling medical supplies, from trauma kits to entire hospitals. A criminal gang nicknamed him "Doc Operator," but their admiration turned to animosity when he defrauded them of a significant sum of credits and failed to deliver a promised shipment of spice. Upon learning of a powerful Hutt who was hoarding medpacs following a major earthquake, Doc fabricated a death mark, purportedly signed by the Hutt, against a clan of Mandalorian warriors, and helped the clan discover the false death mark. The Mandalorians immediately attacked the Hutt's palace, and Doc managed to recover the medpacs and some rare gems amidst the chaos. He then donated the medpacs to all the hospitals in the disaster zone, saving thousands of lives.

During his travels, Doc briefly practiced orthodontia on Rodia, and also impersonated a member of the Imperial Medical Corps on the Imperial-occupied planet of Sullust. He had further adventures on planets like Taris, and for a time, worked with the Red Band Rebels on Cadinth. In 3644 BBY, Doc met a Twi'lek doctor named Prudy on Ord Mantell, and they began a romantic relationship that quickly led to their engagement. Doc even used the credits from his spice scam to buy Prudy a hospital on Alderaan. However, Prudy's eagerness to rush the wedding gave Doc cold feet, and he left her at the altar. Around the same time, it was rumored that a trio of jealous crime lords on Ord Mantell had placed a bounty on Doc, which some believed was the reason for his departure. Ultimately, Doc's adventuring and his drive to undermine tyrants across the galaxy came to an end on Little Kessel, where he clashed with the Kaleesh warlord Xim'tahal the Defaced, nearly losing his life as a result. Following this close call, Doc joined the Balmorran resistance on Balmorra, where he unofficially assisted the freedom fighters as a doctor in their struggle against the Sith Empire.

While the Balmorran Arms Factory remained under resistance control, Doc operated a hospital within the facility, forming friendships with Balmorrans such as Remmy and Madel. However, the resistance was eventually forced out of the factory, compelling Doc to move his operations to a resistance hospital established in an old research facility within the former genetic research compound known as Bugtown. The Republic Military had set up a forward command post there as part of their renewed efforts to support the resistance. Doc continued to treat the wounded, aiding resistance members, civilians, and soldiers, despite being the only trained doctor at the facility. However, the hospital's operations were disrupted when Imperial forces intercepted a shipment of trauma kits destined for the facility.
Shortly thereafter, the facility was attacked by a swarm of insectoid Colicoids. This prompted Doc to send out a distress signal, which was answered by the Jedi Knight recognized as the Hero of Tython. The Jedi was responding to the signal in order to earn the trust of the resistance, thus furthering the Jedi's own mission on Balmorra. The Jedi and a companion fought their way through the attacking Colicoids, but Doc warned them about an incoming nest of Colicoids and urged the Jedi to seal the insectoids' tunnels before rushing to the secure area to protect his patients.

During the Eternal Empire conquest, the Hero disappeared, leading Doc to believe they were on a highly classified mission. Eventually, he became separated from Kira Carsen and Scourge on Begeren and began searching for Jedi in the hope of finding his former companions. His search led him to Ossus and a hidden Jedi Colony under Jedi Master Gnost-Dural. Despite arriving late to the newly established settlement, Doc was warmly welcomed and joined the staff as a full-time doctor.
Years later, during the Invasion of Ossus and the start of a new conflict between the Empire and the Republic, Doc and Nadia Grell spearheaded the evacuation efforts of the colony. He welcomed the arrival of the Eternal Alliance's Commander, who had come to assist in the evacuation.
Archiban Frodrick Kimble, voiced by Andrew Bowen, is a companion character for the Jedi Knight class in Star Wars: The Old Republic. A female Knight can romance him and eventually marry him.
Hall Hood, a primary writer for both the Jedi Knight and Smuggler classes, stated that he created Doc to provide a counterbalance to the Knight storyline's seriousness. Hood's belief that humor was essential to a good Star Wars story heavily influenced Doc's personality and in-game dialogue.
In 2018, Kimble returned in the "Jedi Under Siege" update of the Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne expansion. After completing the update, Jedi Knight players can choose to welcome Kimble into the Eternal Alliance.
