Mission to save Kessel

A quest to the planet of Kessel unfolded in 43 ABY as Han and Leia Solo worked to preserve the world from annihilation.

Prelude

In 43.5 ABY, Lando Calrissian reached out to former smuggler Han Solo and Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo, sharing information about sudden, intense seismic events occurring on the planet of Kessel. He was a co-owner of a lucrative mining operation there, known as Calrissian-Nunb Mines, along with his partner, the Sullustan Nien Nunb. The Solos decided to journey to Kessel, accompanied by their granddaughter, Allana, and the family's protocol droid, C-3PO, to offer assistance to Calrissian. Upon reaching Kessel, they received a briefing on the history of the mines. The seismic disturbances had begun around 41 ABY, during the peak of the Second Galactic Civil War. The Solos then agreed to explore the caves, hoping that Leia's Force abilities could uncover the cause of the quakes, something the scientific teams sent by Calrissian had been unable to do.

Venturing into the shadowy depths of the caverns in an armored speeder, the Solos were unintentionally trapped in a deep ravine after their speeder suffered a crash. After the crash, they came across a number of peculiar machines that seemed linked to a substantial population of bogeys—creatures known to disrupt mechanical devices upon contact. The machines were emitting vast quantities of energy, posing a planetary threat if left operational.

The mission

Recognizing the machinery as a danger, Calrissian summoned a group of experienced pilots, including Wedge Antilles, Drathan and Inyri Forge, Cheriss ke Hanadi, Derek Klivian, Koyi Komad, Maarek Stele, Kell Tainer, Nrin Vakil, and Rhysati Ynr, to disable the installations. Outfitted with diverse fighters, such as an Eta-5 fighter and a TIE bomber along with multiple X-wing fighters, and guided by the Millennium Falcon, the team descended into the cave system.

Despite encountering strange lifeforms and experiencing some difficulties, the team managed to locate and deactivate all the generators, thus saving Kessel and the Calrissian-Nunb Mines.

Aftermath

Celebratory events took place on the surface. Although the mission was a success, the real function of the unusual machinery was never discovered.
