Its design mirrored the Mos Espa settlement found on Tatooine, particularly drawing inspiration from the Boonta Eve Classic podracing competition, an annual occurrence. Within the arena's confines were Joltin's Workshop, the Sandy Dunes Inn, and entry points to both the Mos Espa Podrace racetrack and the Raceport. In addition, it incorporated a danger area that was regularly inundated due to the high velocity of passing podracers.
The canonical video game Star Wars: Hunters marked the debut of Mos Espa Podrace, featuring it as a map available for gameplay.
