Nariel Pridence, a Human female Jedi Knight, dedicated her service to the Jedi Order during the era known as the Cold War. This conflict unfolded between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire.
In the year 3643 BBY, her mission led her to the desert planet of Tatooine, where she sought the holocron belonging to the Sith Lord known as Darth Nihilus. However, she encountered Vaverone Zare, an agent of the Empire, who was also in pursuit of the holocron. Inside Tookreek's cantina, Nariel found herself in a confrontation with Chomm and his troublesome gang. Prior to the fight, a smuggler entering the cantina to meet with Tookreek noticed the situation and warned the gang to leave Nariel alone. Nariel quickly defeated her attackers. Following this, she formally introduced herself to the smuggler and encouraged them to abandon their criminal associations before departing.
Later, Nariel investigated an Imperial attack on Diago Hixan's summer palace and was surprised to see the smuggler involved in the conflict. The smuggler revealed that the Imperials were sent by Zare, who was attempting to arrange a meeting with Diago, the possessor of the holocron. The smuggler then provided Nariel with the location of Diago's hideout, the Lightspring. After receiving her thanks, the Jedi advised the smuggler against following her, but the smuggler disregarded this advice and followed anyway.
As everyone converged at the Lightspring, tensions escalated. Both Zare and Nariel attempted to use a mind trick to either force the smuggler to fight for them or to drop their weapons, respectively. However, the smuggler's strong will resisted manipulation. Diago then commanded his droids to eliminate everyone. Nariel and the smuggler fought together against Diago and Zare, ultimately killing them both.

If the player chooses a male Smuggler character, that character can flirt with Nariel, causing her to reflect on how she would respond to romantic advances if she were not a Jedi. If the Smuggler directs both Nariel and Zare to the Lightspring and remains neutral, they will ultimately side with Nariel.
