New Aldera functioned as the capital city for New Alderaan. Its design mirrored Aldera perfectly. Consequently, its location was most likely in the planet's mountainous regions, situated by a lake, or potentially on an island within a lake, according to some accounts.
Following the Destruction of Alderaan by the first Death Star, thousands of former inhabitants of Alderaan relocated to the city of New Aldera. The Alderaanian Council, likely under the leadership of the Alderaan Alliance, governed the city. The Alliance to Restore the Republic's Support Services, including Lieutenant Deeve, were responsible for its establishment.
After the Alderaan Alliance relocated to New Alderaan in the wake of Old Alderaan's destruction, New Aldera was constructed with a design and environment reminiscent of the original.
New Aldera was the site of both the First and Second Battles of New Alderaan.
The First Battle of New Alderaan occurred during the Zsinj campaign within the larger Galactic Civil War. Around 8 ABY, the forces commanded by Warlord Zsinj inflicted heavy damage on New Alderaan, leading to the New Republic's evacuation of the planet.
The Second Battle of New Alderaan involved combat between the forces of the resurrected Emperor Palpatine and the New Republic. Before the battle, the Emperor dispatched Scarab Droids with orders to assassinate [Luke Skywalker](/article/luke_skywalker-legends] in his sleep. Furthermore, the Emperor sent his Executor Xecr Nist and his second, Tedryn-Sha, to abduct the Solo twins.
However, Jem Ysanna and Leia Organa Solo intervened, killing them, while Vima-da Boda neutralized the Scarab Droids.
In response to the attack on his Citadel at Byss, the Emperor deployed a contingent of AT-ATs to raze the Rebel settlement located on New Alderaan.
These AT-ATs represented the most advanced models, equipped with the most potent Imperial turbolasers and the novel X-80 Power Cells. Consequently, numerous structures and defensive positions were obliterated.
As the village faced imminent destruction, the Millennium Falcon, Starhook Ten, Bespin Bandit, Hyperspace Marauder, and a squadron of X-wings arrived to provide assistance. These reinforcements successfully destroyed several AT-ATs.
Starhook Ten touched down, opening its cargo bay to accommodate the surviving refugees. Nevertheless, the Rebels were compelled to retreat, and New Aldera fell under Imperial control.
It is assumed that the New Republic regained control of the planet following Zsinj's death in 8 ABY, and again after Palpatine's final demise in 11 ABY.
During the Galactic Civil War, Lieda Mothma recuperated on New Alderaan from an unspecified ailment. Jan Dodonna retired to New Aldera, where he eventually passed away due to old age in 24 ABY.
