Tedryn-Sha

Tedryn-Sha

A Human male [Dark Side Adept](/article/dark_side_adept/legends], Tedryn-Sha was a devoted follower of Galactic Emperor Palpatine. He served the Emperor's Dark Empire after Palpatine's rebirth into a clone body. Following losses within Palpatine's elite Dark Jedi group, the Dark Side Elite, in 10 ABY, due to Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and his Jedi, Sha was selected to bolster their ranks. The Emperor imbued Sha and another darksider, Xecr Nist, with the power of the dark side of the Force. Nist became the Emperor's latest Executor, while Sha was elevated to Palpatine's second-in-command.

Later, Sha participated in an attack targeting the New Republic hideout on the planet New Alderaan. His mission: to disable Skywalker by poisoning him using tiny scarab droids, enabling his capture. Sha, along with the Dark Jedi Krdys Mordi, infiltrated Skywalker's private quarters while he was asleep, unleashing the droids. However, Skywalker's screams roused his sister, Leia Organa Solo, and the Jedi trainee Jem Ysanna, who hurried to his assistance. In the resulting conflict, Sha and Mordi met their deaths, though Sha managed to inflict a fatal wound on Ysanna beforehand.

Biography

The initiation

A Dark Side Adept and advisor to Galactic Emperor Palpatine, Tedryn-Sha was a Human male. Palpatine had reborn in a clone body following his death at the hands of Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa Solo in 10 ABY during the battle. Later that year, after the Emperor's resurrection, Tedryn-Sha accompanied darksider Xecr Nist and Imperial engineer Umak Leth on a tour of Palpatine's newest superweapon, the Galaxy Gun. The weapon was under construction in orbit above Byss, the capital world of Palpatine's Dark Empire.

During the inspection aboard a shuttle, Palpatine learned that Executor Sedriss QL and Vill Goir, members of the Dark Side Elite and Palpatine's cadre of elite Dark Jedi, had died at Skywalker's hand on Ossus. Palpatine chose Tedryn-Sha and Xecr Nist to fill the void, bestowing upon them the power of the dark side of the Force. The ritual's intensity created a disturbance in the Force, felt even by Skywalker on Ossus. Palpatine then appointed Nist as the new Executor, granting him command of the entire Imperial Military, while Tedryn-Sha became Palpatine's second-in-command.

Concurrently, a shipment of X-1 Viper droids, obtained from Governor Hinch Beltane of Balmorra, arrived on Byss aboard the star hauler Reliance. Beltane, however, had secretly betrayed the Empire, allowing the New Republic to smuggle a group of commandos within the droids. After the droids reached the Emperor's Citadel, the infiltrators activated them. Sha witnessed the New Republic forces attack the Emperor's fortress. The Emperor responded by unleashing fearsome chrysalide rancors, which repelled the Viper droids. Nevertheless, the New Republic troops escaped Byss with the help of local smugglers.

Confident in the Galaxy Gun's power, Palpatine ordered his forces to let the fleeing smuggler ships escape, surprising his newly appointed Dark Jedi. Knowing the enemy would return to Pinnacle Base on the moon Da Soocha V, Palpatine ordered the Galaxy Gun to fire, obliterating the moon.

Arrival on Vjun

Following the destruction of its base, which threw the New Republic into disarray, Palpatine focused on finding Skywalker and his small group of Jedi recruits. The Emperor believed the Jedi would seek refuge on the planet hiding Leia Organa Solo and her children, the twins Jaina and Jacen. Palpatine wanted to turn the children to the dark side but first needed to find their location. An opportunity arose when Major Ntthan, a New Republic pilot, was captured by the Empire in an uncharted region of space during a supply run to the New Republic hideout. The pilot was quickly taken to Bast Castle on Vjun, headquarters of the Dark Side Elite, where Dark Jedi Kvag Gthull began interrogating him to learn Organa Solo's location.

Sha and Nist accompanied Palpatine to Bast Castle aboard the Lambda-class shuttle Tridius to monitor the interrogation. Upon arrival, Gthull informed Palpatine and the Dark Jedi that Ntthan, after twelve hours of torture, had revealed the coordinates and name of the planet: New Alderaan. Palpatine ordered Nist to gather all Dark Jedi and embark on a mission there. The darksiders were to infiltrate the city of New Aldera and capture Skywalker and the Solo children, after which the Empire would launch a full-scale assault on the settlement using All Terrain Armored Transports.

Sha and the rest of the Dark Side Elite boarded I-7 Howlrunner starfighters and set out as part of Dark Side Squadron. Upon exiting hyperspace near New Alderaan, Sha consulted the ship's sensors but found no sign of Skywalker and his allies. Nist reassured him they were on the planet and advised Sha to rely on the dark side to guide him.

The incursion on New Alderaan

As the darksiders' ships approached the New Republic settlement, they passed over Skywalker, who was standing outside with Jedi trainee Jem Ysanna. The Jedi Master almost sensed the Dark Jedi through the Force, due to Sha's failure to properly mask his Force presence. After Dark Side Squadron landed, Nist reprimanded Sha for his mistake. The Executor then dispatched Sha and Dark Jedi Krdys Mordi to Skywalker's quarters, providing them with tiny scarab droids carrying a potent poison to incapacitate the Jedi. Sha and Mordi were to release the droids on Skywalker, who was battling Palpatine in his sleep as the Emperor invaded the Jedi's dreams. Nist took the remaining Dark Jedi to pursue the Solo twins.

This time, Sha and Mordi successfully hid their Force presence from Skywalker and reached the building housing his quarters. They released the scarab droids through a window, watching as they began to immobilize the Jedi. However, as Sha and Mordi entered the room to capture him, Skywalker cried out in his sleep, resisting the Emperor's influence. This alerted Organa Solo and Ysanna, who arrived to defend the Jedi Master. Mordi was immediately killed, sliced in half by Ysanna's lightsaber.

Tedryn-Sha meets his end at the edge of Leia Organa Solo's blade.

Confident as the Emperor's second-in-command and knowing Palpatine wanted Organa Solo alive due to her pregnancy with her third child, Sha offered the women a chance to surrender. Organa Solo refused and fired her blaster at Sha. The Dark Jedi blocked the shot with his hand and shot Ysanna in the abdomen with his blaster pistol, gravely wounding her. Sha was then struck down by Organa Solo, who cleaved him in half with her lightsaber.

Skywalker was healed from the poison by Vima-Da-Boda using the Force, while Nist and the other darksiders were defeated by Skywalker's remaining Jedi. Nist and two other survivors retreated under the covering fire of Imperial AT-ATs after signaling them to attack. Although the Empire captured the planet and Ysanna died from Sha's wound, the New Republic retreated and regrouped, and the Emperor failed to capture Skywalker or the Solos.

Personality and traits

Tedryn-Sha, one of the Emperor's personal advisors, was a loyal servant of Palpatine, even though he initially doubted the Emperor's return after his latest death in 10 ABY. Sha only believed in Palpatine's return after seeing him alive. His service earned him induction into the Dark Side Elite and the position of Palpatine's second-in-command.

Tedryn-Sha was one of Emperor Palpatine's highest-ranked darksider cohorts.

The initiation into the Dark Jedi boosted Tedryn-Sha's self-confidence, which was evident in his tone and behavior. He respected Xecr Nist's authority even before his empowerment, addressing him as "Lord" and accepting his reprimands.

Sha was proud of his position as the Emperor's second-in-command and boasted about it to Organa Solo, whom he recognized as the daughter of Palpatine's deceased apprentice, Darth Vader. Upon arriving at Bast Castle, Sha was impressed by the statue of Vader, erected by the late Sedriss QL, realizing the Castle had once belonged to Vader. He also feared Skywalker's Jedi powers, questioning how they would subdue him. Tedryn-Sha had light skin and yellow eyes.

Powers and abilities

Tedryn-Sha being empowered with the dark side by Palpatine

After Emperor Palpatine empowered him with the dark side, Sha became a Dark Jedi. However, his connection to the dark side was imperfect, as Xecr Nist had to remind him to rely on it to locate Luke Skywalker on New Alderaan. He also struggled to mask his Force presence from Skywalker while approaching the New Republic hideout but managed to do so during the abduction attempt.

Sha could intercept blaster bolts with his gloved hand and pilot an I-7 Howlrunner as a member of Dark Side Squadron during the New Alderaan mission. He was also a skilled marksman, able to kill Jem Ysanna with a single blaster shot, though Ysanna's lack of evasion skills contributed to this.

Equipment

Sha, like other members of the Dark Side Elite, wore a dark robe with a flowing cape, heavy boots, gauntlets, and head coverings. He carried a blaster pistol on New Alderaan.

Behind the scenes

Tedryn-Sha was created by Tom Veitch and debuted in the 1995 comic book Dark Empire II 4. Sha appeared in two more issues of Star Wars: Dark Empire II before being killed in the sixth issue. Artist Cam Kennedy illustrated Sha in all his appearances. Sha later appeared in the Dark Empire II audio drama.

Inconsistencies

The cargo of X-1 Vipers, which Sha is responsible for delivering to the Emperor in the audio drama

The Dark Empire audio drama presents Sha's role in the battle on Byss differently than the comics. In the audio version, Sha and Xecr Nist arrive on Byss aboard the Reliance with the Viper droids and then join Palpatine's Galaxy Gun inspection.

After being empowered, Sha and Nist leave Palpatine and arrive at the Emperor's Citadel. Sha oversees the delivery of the Viper droids, reveling in his authority over the workers unloading them.

When the New Republic commandos activate the droids, Sha is surprised and wounded. He commands the defense of Byss with Nist until the Emperor orders the release of the chrysalide rancors.

However, in the comic version, Sha and Nist are already with Palpatine aboard the shuttle near the Galaxy Gun when the Reliance arrives and remain there throughout the battle. This article follows the comic book's depiction.

The Star Wars Handbook 3: Dark Empire mistakenly states that Krdys Mordi underwent the initiation with Xecr Nist, not Tedryn-Sha.
