Krdys Mordi

Krdys Mordi, a Human male Dark Jedi, was a member of the Dark Side Elite, a group of darksiders personally chosen by the reborn Galactic Emperor Palpatine. He served Palpatine during the Galactic Civil War. Following the Emperor's second death in 10 ABY, Mordi took part in Operation Shadow Hand, the Imperial counter-offensive. In this operation, he accompanied Executor Sedriss QL, the Dark Side Elite's leader, during the unsuccessful attempt to conquer the rebellious planet Balmorra.

When the Emperor was resurrected once more in a clone body and sought to capture Jedi Luke Skywalker, along with Leia Organa Solo's twin children, Mordi participated in a mission to New Alderaan to abduct them. Teaming up with Tedryn-Sha, Palpatine's second-in-command, Mordi attempted to poison and capture Skywalker while he was sleeping. However, Jedi Master Skywalker was aided by his sister and Jedi trainee Jem Ysanna. In the ensuing confrontation, Ysanna killed Mordi, slicing him in half with her lightsaber.

Biography

Extension of Palpatine's will

Krdys Mordi was a Human male Dark Jedi who served Galactic Emperor Palpatine. Palpatine had been reborn in a clone body following his death at the Battle of Endor. The resurrected Emperor governed his secret Dark Empire—the latest version of the formerly dominant Galactic Empire—from the Deep Core world of Byss. During this time, Mordi became a member of Palpatine's Dark Side Elite, a group consisting of seven Dark Jedi, each empowered with the dark side of the Force by the Emperor himself.

10 ABY saw Palpatine die once more during a battle against Jedi Luke Skywalker and his sister, Leia Organa Solo, near the New Republic's Pinnacle Base. After Palpatine's demise, Executor Sedriss QL, the leader of the Dark Side Elite, assumed control of Imperial forces and initiated Operation Shadow Hand, a series of attacks designed to bring neutral planets under firm Imperial control.

Operation Shadow Hand

One of the targets of Sedriss's campaign was the factory world of Balmorra. Following the Emperor's death, Governor Hinch Beltane, the planet's ruler, had begun supplying the New Republic with weaponry, an arrangement that Sedriss aimed to terminate. As one of Sedriss's sergeants at arms, Mordi, along with fellow Dark Jedi Vill Goir, accompanied the Executor to Balmorra aboard the Star Destroyer Avenger, joining an Imperial fleet already positioned in orbit above the planet.

Upon arriving, Sedriss gave Beltane the option to surrender his operations to the Empire and face execution, or else the Empire would launch a full-scale invasion. Beltane ignored Sedriss's threats, believing Sedriss wouldn't risk damaging Balmorran factories in a direct assault, as they still produced weapons for the Empire. Mordi agreed with Beltane's assessment, reminding Sedriss that Balmorran factories were currently manufacturing the new SD-10 battle droid model, intended to replace the Empire's outdated SD-9 model.

However, Sedriss had devised a plan to conquer the planet without damaging the factories. Consequently, he proceeded with the attack, launching ground troops under the command of Captain Maximilian Veers. When Balmorran droids fully engaged Sedriss's invasion troops and were drawn from the capital, Bin Prime, to the surrounding open plains, the Executor ordered Mordi to withdraw the Empire's forces and deployed his secret weapon, the new, highly advanced Shadow Droid starfighters.

The Shadow Droids briefly shifted the battle's momentum in favor of the Empire. However, Beltane had his own surprise, deploying the newly developed X-1 Viper Automadon droids against the invasion force. Impressed by the firepower of Beltane's creation, Sedriss contacted the governor and conceded victory. Mordi and Goir disagreed with this decision, believing Sedriss should have simply ordered his fleet to initiate an orbital bombardment of the planet. However, Sedriss wanted to acquire the X-1 droids before taking any punitive actions against Beltane, and he negotiated a treaty with the governor, granting Balmorra freedom and purchasing a number of X-1 Vipers.

Abduction of Skywalker

Soon after the Battle of Balmorra, Palpatine was resurrected on Byss in his final clone body. He regained control of the Empire and successfully destroyed the New Republic's Pinnacle Base on the moon Da Soocha V using his new superweapon, the Galaxy Gun. The New Republic was forced to retreat to a secret sanctuary world, where Organa Solo was hiding her twin children, whom the Emperor sought to capture and turn to the dark side.

The Emperor soon learned the hidden planet's name, New Alderaan, and its coordinates from captured New Republic Major Ntthan. Palpatine then dispatched the Dark Side Elite, led by Xecr Nist, his newly appointed Executor. Nist replaced Sedriss, who had recently been killed in battle with Skywalker. Mordi and the other darksiders boarded their I-7 Howlrunner starships and departed from their headquarters, Bast Castle, on the planet Vjun as Dark Side Squadron. Upon arrival on New Alderaan, the Dark Side Elite divided their forces. Nist took four Dark Jedi to abduct the Solo twins, Jacen and Jaina, while Mordi was sent with Palpatine's second-in-command, Tedryn-Sha, to confront Skywalker.

Mordi and Sha were instructed to incapacitate the Jedi Master with specialized scarab droids while he was asleep, allowing them to capture him. Hiding their presence from the sleeping Jedi using the Force, the two darksiders reached his room and released the scarab droids upon Skywalker through a window. The droids administered a potent poison into the Jedi's nervous system, and the two Dark Jedi entered the room to capture Skywalker.

However, in his delirium, Skywalker cried out, alerting Organa Solo and one of Skywalker's aspiring Jedi, Jem Ysanna. The two women rushed to Skywalker's aid, and Ysanna immediately killed Mordi by slicing him across the torso with her lightsaber. Sha retaliated by killing her with a blaster shot, but Organa Solo then slew him with a lightsaber strike. Mordi and Sha's mission ultimately failed, as Skywalker was healed from the poison's effects by the elderly Jedi Vima-Da-Boda.

Personality and traits

Krdys Mordi underestimated the combat prowess of Jedi women, such as Jem Ysanna, resulting in his death.

Krdys Mordi was a Dark Jedi who remained loyal to Palpatine and his Dark Empire. During the Battle of Balmorra, Mordi initially advised Sedriss QL against invading the planet, fearing damage to Balmorra's factories, which were producing the crucial Imperial SD-10 droids. However, as Balmorra's Governor Beltane continued to defy them, Mordi suggested Sedriss should bombard the planet to demonstrate the error of his ways.

On New Alderaan, Mordi was initially unimpressed with Luke Skywalker after seeing him asleep, believing the Jedi posed no threat in that state. He also underestimated Jem Ysanna and Leia Organa Solo, based solely on their being women—a mistake that led to his demise. The Dark Jedi had light skin and eyes that glowed yellow.

Powers and abilities

Mordi was a Force-sensitive individual who was empowered with the dark side by Palpatine, transforming him into a Dark Jedi. He possessed the ability to conceal his presence in the Force, which allowed him to approach Luke Skywalker undetected on New Alderaan. As a member of Dark Side Squadron, Mordi piloted an I-7 Howlrunner.

Equipment

During his service to Palpatine, Mordi wore an outfit similar to those of his Dark Side Elite cohorts, featuring a dark robe with a long cape and a hood that covered his head, along with massive boots and gauntlets. During the Battle of Balmorra, he also wore glasses and carried a staff.

Behind the scenes

The Dark Jedi Mordi made his first appearance in Dark Horse's comic book Dark Empire II 1, written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Cam Kennedy, and published on December 20, 1994. The character returned in the final issue of the Star Wars: Dark Empire II comic series, where he was given the first name "Krdys" and was killed off. Mordi was originally intended to debut in Veitch's proposed short novel, Lightsider, which would have occurred before Dark Empire II and introduced the Dark Side Elite. However, Lightsider was never published.

In the Dark Empire II audio drama, Mordi is absent from the invasion of Balmorra scenes, with Vill Goir serving as Sedriss's sole advisor. Mordi does appear in the audio drama during the events on New Alderaan, where he briefly exchanges dialogue with Jem Ysanna, challenging her to combat. In the original comic, Mordi is killed immediately after the Jedi women rush to Skywalker's aid, without any dialogue between them. The comic guide Star Wars Handbook 3: Dark Empire states that Mordi underwent initiation into the Dark Side Elite alongside Xecr Nist. This contradicts the fourth issue of the Dark Empire II comic series, which features Tedryn-Sha as the other subject of the initiation beside Nist, while Mordi was already a member of the group at that point.
