Northern Windfarm

During the Cold War era between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, the Northern Windfarm, alternatively called the Geonosian Compound, functioned as both a windfarm and a storage installation. This facility was situated in the northern reaches of the Jundland Wastes on the planet Tatooine. Local criminal elements utilized one of the warehouses on site to store spice, but the windfarm itself was seized by members of the Geonosian species during the Cold War period. Consequently, the site deteriorated. The Geonosians, who occupied the farm, not only conducted raids on nearby settlements but were also contracted by the Sith Empire to manufacture bombs carried by droid units.

Description

Within the Deathly Heat region, located in the northern Jundland Wastes on the planet Tatooine, was the Northern Windfarm, a windfarm. This area also contained several other buildings and facilities, forming an informal township. The windfarm was positioned within a sizable depression in the desert sands and comprised multiple structures in addition to five prominent wind vanes. Among these, two rectangular warehouses were the largest. Four smaller, circular buildings were positioned just to the west of the northern warehouse, with one of them being topped by a large moisture vaporator. A second warehouse stood to the southwest, while a substantial circular tower was situated south of the main farm complex. The five prominent vanes of the windfarm's were located just north of the buildings. However, the Cold War witnessed the takeover of the farm by members of the Geonosian species during the conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, resulting in the collapse of two vanes due to neglect. Three additional wind vanes were situated south of the southern warehouse, bordering the Northern Jundland Plateau.

History

Prior to the Cold War, the Northern Windfarm was an active operation. However, by 3643 BBY, it had been abandoned, at which point Geonosians seized control of the windfarm and much of the surrounding territory, leading to the area being dubbed the Geonosian Compound. Despite the farm's disuse, the southern warehouse continued to serve as a storage location for spice by local criminal groups. Following their takeover of the compound, the Geonosians initiated raids on neighboring settlements. Two months after the Geonosian invasion, Colonel Gorik of the Sith Empire enlisted the Geonosian Kyvax to construct droid bombs, which were subsequently employed in attacks against the settlement of Anchorhead. Upon discovering the Geonosians' bomb production, Havoc Squad, an elite unit of the Republic Special Forces, launched an investigation into the warehouse at the Northern Windfarm. There, they encountered Kyvax and overheard a conversation between Kyvax and Gorik, confirming the Empire's involvement in the bombings. After fighting their way out of the warehouse, Havoc Squad returned to Anchorhead and continued their pursuit of Gorik.

Around the same time, a Jedi Knight visited the windfarm to install an ultrasonic scanner as part of an effort to locate the Shock Drum, a superweapon capable of generating seismic vibrations. The Jedi Knight battled through the Geonosians in the area and successfully set up the scanner before leaving. Also during this period, the Geonosians from the windfarm raided the nearby Ut'ttailri Jawa Camp, a Jawa settlement centered around a damaged sandcrawler, and stole parts needed by the Jawas to repair their vehicle. A Jedi searching for Jedi Master Eriz Vossan brokered a deal with the Jawas to recover the stolen parts in exchange for information on Vossan's whereabouts. The Jedi Consular then retrieved the parts from around the compound. A smuggler was dispatched to retrieve a tooth from a rare krayt dragon from the southern warehouse for Tookreek, the proprietor of Tookreek's Cantina at the nearby Dreviad Outpost. The smuggler fought through the raiders to secure the tooth.

Behind the scenes

The Northern Windfarm is a location on the planet Tatooine featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game developed by BioWare and released in 2011. It appears during the Jedi Knight class mission "Race Against Doom" and the Jedi Consular mission "Looking Out for the Little Guy." The two warehouses serve as class-restricted phases for the Trooper mission "Interception" and the Smuggler mission "Bugged-Out."
