During the waning years of the Galactic Republic, the Jedi Order was served by a male Bothan Jedi Knight named Nysis Belzara. Around 31 BBY, Belzara was present on the planet of Coruscant to receive a starship carrying a Mandalorian iron container for the Jedi. Tragically, the Bothan met his death when the Believers, dark side cultists with intentions to seize the ship's contents, ambushed him.
Nysis Belzara, a male Bothan strong in the Force, achieved the rank of Jedi Knight while serving the Jedi Order in the final years of the Galactic Republic. Approximately 31 BBY, Jedi researchers made a discovery on the planet Almas: the Pulas, a potent Sith artifact. To prevent the Believers, a cult devoted to the dark side who were determined to steal the artifact, the Jedi arranged for its relocation to the galactic capital of Coruscant for secure storage. A fleet of ships was organized to transport the relic, each carrying a Mandalorian iron box; only one held the Pulas, while the others served as decoys. The Jedi Council, the Order's governing body, assigned Belzara the task of meeting one of the arriving starships on Coruscant and escorting the crew and their Mandalorian iron box to a secure location.
Upon the starship's arrival at a landing platform on Coruscant, Belzara arrived to greet the crew as they disembarked. Unbeknownst to Belzara, one of the crew members, Tarasin Es'Loma, was secretly aligned with the Believers. Es'Loma feigned a fall from the platform's edge, creating a distraction for Belzara and her companions, the Wookiee Wojarra and the Human Force Adepts San Herrera and Nia Reston. At that moment, a Believer strike team launched their attack. Belzara was shot and killed during the ambush, and the Believers successfully seized the box that the ship had been carrying, which contained a fragment of the city of Conkesta imbued with dark side energy. Shortly thereafter, the Jedi Knight Devan For'deschel and a group of spacers arrived at the landing platform. For'deschel recognized Belzara and promptly notified the Jedi Council of the Bothan's passing, while Wojarra provided the spacers with an account of Belzara's demise.
Morrie Mullins conceived Nysis Belzara for the 2002 roleplaying adventure Coruscani Dawn, which was part of the Living Force campaign and premiered at the Celebration II fan convention. Belzara's death occurs off-screen within the adventure; only his corpse is directly presented in the roleplaying module.
