The Old City, a forgotten and venerable city composed of ziggurats and pyramids, was situated within the Red Desert on Talss, a continent belonging to Tython. The Je'daii Order came across this site after landing on the world in 36,453 BBY; even then, the city was already ancient, its origins shrouded in mystery.
A long-vanished civilization of unknown origin raised this extensive city, featuring ziggurats and pyramids rising prominently from the [Red Desert](/article/red_desert] landscape. The Je'daii Order referred to it as the Old City, which was already ancient and deserted by 36,453 BBY. It was constructed above a network of caverns and tunnels, which had a strangely silencing impact on the Force. After millennia spent exploring and researching, the Je'daii began to speculate that the Gree either built or once occupied the Old City, potentially for tens of millennia. Some Je'daii even posited that the city predated the Gree, pointing to the unusually massive scale of some architectural elements.
Regardless of who originally built it, the Gree did install a hypergate deep within the cavern system beneath the largest pyramid. The caverns that led to it were filled with perilous pitfalls, deep ravines, subterranean lakes, and vents that released warm air from the depths. The Je'daii Council never officially acknowledged the hypergate's existence, yet they did set traps throughout the caverns that supposedly led to it. In the year leading up to the Force Wars, Dalien Brock guided a faction of Stargazers into these pits, hoping to activate the hypergate and abandon Tython in search of their lost homeworlds. Je'daii Ranger Lanoree Brock, Dalien's sister, thwarted this attempt, killing her brother, though confirmation of his body's recovery was never made.
