During the apex of the Infinite Empire's dominion, a fanatical group known as the Stargazers emerged within the Tython system. Their primary obsession revolved around escaping the confines of their current star system, fueled by a deep-seated resentment stemming from the arrival of their ancestors on the Deep Core world of Tython, guided by the Tho Yor ages ago.
The Stargazers represented a minor faction operating on the planet Kalimahr around 25,793 BBY. As one of numerous groups yearning to depart the Tython system, they maintained a secretive and generally peaceful demeanor, with Captain Lorus of the Kalimahr militia having no interactions with them. Membership within the sect was largely concealed. Within the city of Rhol Yan, rumors circulated that Kara, an industrialist and swing dust miner, secretly provided financial backing to the sect. Captain Lorus possessed intelligence suggesting that she permitted the cultists to utilize her properties on Kalimahr and might have supplied them with funds. Indeed, Kara had allowed the use of a derelict Dai Bendu temple situated in the Kalimahr city of Khar. This particular Stargazer faction was under the leadership of Shunned Dalien Brock, a male Human driven by a fervent desire to discover a means of leaving the Tython system and reaching the stars of their forebears, even if it required resorting to criminal activities.
In the year 25,793 BBY, the Stargazer sect initiated their plot to engineer a device capable of harnessing dark matter to activate a Gree hypergate situated within the Old City on Tython. Drawing upon the plans detailed in the journal of Frontiersman Osamael Or, entitled The Gree, and Everything I Have Found of Them in the Old City, the sect's members meticulously devised a plan within the confines of the Temple to traverse the system. Their initial step involved journeying to the weapons laboratories of Pan Deep within Greenwood Station to construct the device, thereby instigating a civil conflict between Greenwood and the neighboring city of Knool Tandor. Exploiting the ensuing chaos to mask their movements, the sect intended to proceed to the planet Sunspot, where they would delve into the mines of Ran Dan's Folly to extract marionium for the purpose of charging the device and initiating the creation of dark matter. In pursuit of these objectives, numerous members of the sect demonstrated a willingness to don suicide vests and detonate themselves in public areas to thwart the efforts of the Je'daii Council to foil their scheme.
The Stargazers came perilously close to realizing their plot, progressing as far as the hypergate itself, located in the subterranean levels of the Old City on Tython. However, in the climactic moment, Lanoree Brock, a Je'daii Ranger and the sister of the sect's leader, Dalien, took her brother's life, thereby preventing the gate's activation. The device was subsequently transported to Anil Kesh for examination, the Old City was placed under surveillance, and the cult's financiers absconded. Je'daii Brock speculated that the cult endured, however. Given the unexplained disappearances of Kara and other affluent individuals, the Je'daii surmised that they constituted the true leadership of the cult.
