During 9 BBY, Greez Dritus, a Latero pilot, suggested to Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight, that they should enjoy ormachek, along with colo claw roe and deep-fried nuna legs, upon their arrival on the planet Tanalorr. Kestis expressed his doubt about Dritus's ability to acquire these items, but Dritus was confident in his ability to do so.
The initial mention of Ormachek in current Star Wars canon occurred within "Starlight: Past Mistakes," a short story penned by Cavan Scott. This story formed part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. It was featured in the 205th edition of the Star Wars Insider magazine on September 21, 2021, as part of the serialized fiction Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight.
Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the first mention of ormachek appeared in the 1996 novel Before the Storm, authored by Michael P. Kube-McDowell. In this context, it was also linked to a Mon Calamari: Admiral Gial Ackbar. Subsequently, it made a complete appearance in the 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, developed by Sony Online Entertainment.
