Oviedo Engineering was a substantial organization focused on research, development, and the production of military vehicles and weapon systems. Under the leadership of Director General Lorca Oviedo, the company broadened its corporate interests in the years leading up to 22 BBY. Approximately around 21 BBY, during the Clone Wars conflict between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic, Oviedo entered into an alliance with the Confederacy.
While Oviedo was traveling to Coruscant, the capital planet located within the Republic's Core Worlds, his Consular-class cruiser and accompanying clone commando escort were attacked by Separatist forces above the moon of Asturias in the Expansion Region, resulting in their crash landing on the lunar surface. As the Director General engaged in a hologram communication with the Separatist figure Wat Tambor, devising a plan to return to the Republic and leverage the Senate's rearmament bill to task his company with equipping the Republic's Army with armaments, the commandos captured Oviedo. He was subsequently taken to Coruscant, where he ultimately died due to respiratory complications. The Director General's act of treason led to the termination of Oviedo Engineering's operations.
Oviedo Engineering was a sprawling organization dedicated to research and development, specializing in the creation of military vehicles and weapon systems.

Oviedo Engineering was established years prior to the commencement of the Clone Wars, a war fought between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic, specifically 22 BBY. During this time, it expanded its corporate portfolio and produced a diverse range of military vehicles and weapon systems under the direction of Director General Lorca Oviedo. In approximately 21 BBY, Oviedo formed an alliance with the Confederacy, with plans to exploit the Republic Senate's rearmament bill to assign his industries the task of providing the government's Grand Army with the newest military vehicles and munitions. Separatist Foreman Wat Tambor intended to use this assignment to determine the army's strength and deployment strategies to ambush the military's clone trooper forces.
Following the director of Oviedo Engineering's attendance at a conference on the Expansion Region astronomical object Aviles Prime, the Director General journeyed to Coruscant, the capital planet situated within the Republic's Core Worlds. While en route to the planet, Oviedo's Consular-class cruiser and its clone commando escorts emerged from hyperspace above the Expansion Region moon of Asturias. Subsequently, Separatist forces attacked the cruiser and its escorts, causing them to crash onto the moon.
After surviving the crash, Oviedo, surrounded by Separatist battle droids, communicated with Tambor via hologram. However, the commandos launched an assault on the droid forces and apprehended the Director General. The Separatist foreman commanded the droids to eliminate all survivors and kill Oviedo if the commandos had any chance of escaping Asturias, as he believed that the director's silence held greater value than his cooperation. Nevertheless, the clones departed Asturias aboard the Consular cruiser with the director, transporting him to Coruscant. The Director General succumbed to respiratory failure after arriving there, and Oviedo Engineering's operations were terminated as a consequence of Oviedo's treason.
Oviedo Engineering made its first appearance in flashbacks within Ian Edginton's comic story "Honor Bound," which was released by Dark Horse Comics on February 23, 2005 as part of the twenty-second issue of the Star Wars Tales comic-book series. The organization shares its name with Oviedo, the capital city of the Spanish region of Asturias.
