Proctor (Yevethan)

The term Proctor was employed by the Yevetha to denote a subordinate official who was delegated a specific task by a high-ranking nitakka.

Within the Yevethan military, particularly on a capital ship, the designation of proctor appeared to be assigned to numerous junior officers. For instance, the officer responsible for standard hypercomm transmissions was known as the "proctor of communications." Conversely, the "proctor of information science," sometimes shortened to "proctor of information," held security-related duties including classified transmissions and encryption technology. Additional individuals identified as proctors included the conn officer aboard the Aramadia-class thrustship Tholos, and Tal Fraan, who provided assistance with tactical planning on the Glory of Yevetha. While officers overseeing combat operations held titles such as weapons master and tactical master, the flagship Pride of Yevetha featured a trio of "fire control proctors" stationed in the fire control center, tasked with assigning targets to specific weapon emplacements.

Nil Spaar, as the ruling Viceroy of the Duskhan League, possessed a substantial number of proctors, some of whom held positions of considerable authority. Given that the flagship Pride of Yevetha served as the ruler's personal vessel, the ship's commanding prelate concurrently held the rank of the viceroy's proctor. This individual shared the ship's bridge with the "proctor of defense for the spawnworld," who was responsible for safeguarding the N'zoth system, and was assisted by the "second proctor of defense."

Furthermore, Pride of Yevetha housed additional proctors who functioned as personal adjutants to the ruler, rather than being part of the regular crew. When Nil Spaar recognized Tal Fraan's understanding of Human psychology, Fraan was transferred from his position as a proctor aboard Glory to serve as an advisor with the title of "proctor cogent." Similarly, Vor Duull, the proctor of information from the consular ship Aramadia, was reassigned to the flagship to manage the viceroy's private communications. However, not all aides were necessarily proctors; Eri Palle, the assistant who remained in closest proximity to the viceroy, was simply referred to as "first attaché."

The viceroy also employed proctors who were clearly not naval officers, with responsibilities spanning N'zoth and potentially other planets within the Duskhan League. Some of these roles were relatively limited in scope. For example, at the viceroy's palace in the capital city of Giat Nor, the guard stationed at the entrance was known as the "gate proctor." A secondary viceregal residence near the spaceport city of Hariz featured a resident "proctor of labor," who was considered a member of the viceroy's local "office" and was tasked with processing applications from local marasi seeking entry into the ruler's harem.

Other local proctors on N'zoth held more significant positions within the Duskhan League's administrative structure. The "proctor of records and antiquities" oversaw the official archives, which included captured documents from the Imperial occupation. The "proctor of Giat Nor," sometimes referred to as the "city proctor," served as the equivalent of a mayor for the capital city, possessing an official residence separate from the viceroy's palace, as well as his own staff of aides and attendants.
