The Quethold system, situated within the Unknown Regions, encompassed several stars and the earth-like planet known as Quethold. Quethold served as the original homeworld for the Quesoth species, whose members communicated using the languages referred to as Quesoth Common Speak and Quesoth Soldier Speak.
Following Grand Admiral Thrawn's battle representing the Empire of the Hand against the alien warlord Nuso Esva in the Poln system of the Outer Rim Territories during 0 ABY, Thrawn's flagship, the _Imperial I_-class Star Destroyer Admonitor, made its way to Quethold. The vessel established a blockade around the planet with the intention of preventing Esva, who had formed an alliance with Quethold's reigning Queen of the Red, from escaping. After defeating the warlord's forces in 8 ABY, Thrawn's warship departed the system and headed for the Chaos Triangle in order to address what the Grand Admiral termed Esva's "legacy."
The planet Quethold, and consequently its star system, made its debut in Timothy Zahn's 2011 novella, Crisis of Faith, which was included in the 20th Anniversary Edition of the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire. Subsequently, the StarWars.com Online Companion for the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, officially named the system and designated its location as grid square I-5.
