The R1 security droid, a type of security droid, was employed by the New Republic Correctional Corps and shared visual similarities with the R1-series astromech droid. A minimum of two of these droids were stationed on the Bothan-5 a New Republic Correctional Transport, where their function was to monitor the ship. Their patrol was interrupted by a group of mercenaries who were in the process of attempting a rescue of Qin, a Twi'lek prisoner. Burg, a Devaronian among the mercenaries, launched an assault on the droids, inflicting significant damage to one before using it as a projectile against the other, resulting in an explosion that eliminated both droids.
