The Radiant VII functioned as a Consular-class space cruiser belonging to the Galactic Republic. On a mission to Naboo, this planet was the destination for Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan learner, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who were transported by the vessel to engage in negotiations with Nute Gunray, the Viceroy representing the Trade Federation. Although the cruiser successfully delivered these Jedi ambassadors on time, it met its end, destroyed along with its entire crew, under the orders of Darth Sidious, the secret manipulator behind the Federation's actions.
It was constructed within the expansive orbital dockyards of Corellia.
For a duration of 34 years, this starship served the Diplomatic Corps of Coruscant, the Galactic Republic's central world. Throughout its service, it navigated numerous perilous situations and transported Jedi Knights, along with ambassadors and diplomats, on politically sensitive missions to resolve crises across the vast galaxy. Its robust armor and replaceable parlor pod ensured protection against any form of electronic surveillance, offering a secure environment for crucial negotiations and de-escalating tense situations.
Despite being a member of the Galactic Republic, Naboo's location near the Outer Rim Territories meant that the Republic's influence there was limited. Planets lacking strong defenses were particularly vulnerable to both attacks and invasions. Considering that the Neimoidian home world, Cato Neimoidia, also belonged to the Republic and the Neimoidians rarely faced issues with the Republic, the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation came as a surprise to many delegates within the Galactic Senate. The Radiant VII, dispatched by Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum to Naboo, a planet under blockade, carried two Jedi directly into a dangerous situation. Upon arrival aboard a Republic corvette at a Trade Federation battleship orbiting Naboo, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi recognized the potential for violent conflict should they fail to convince the Neimoidians to withdraw.
