Maoi Madakor

Maoi Madakor was a human serving as a captain within the Judicial Forces during the Galactic Republic's reign. Back in 32 BBY, alongside co-pilot Antidar Williams, she piloted the Consular-class space cruiser named Radiant VII to the Naboo system with the mission of transporting the Jedi ambassadors Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The two Jedi's objective was to negotiate an end to the Trade Federation's blockade of the planet Naboo. Upon arrival at the blockade, Madakor docked the cruiser on the Federation flagship, known as the Saak'ak, to allow the Jedi to meet with Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray. After the Jedi departed from the Radiant VII, a Federation droid laser turret destroyed it, resulting in the deaths of both Madakor and Williams.

Biography

Maoi Madakor transported Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to the Naboo system.

Maoi Madakor, a human, attended the Judicial Academy located on the planet Coruscant, subsequently becoming an officer in the Judicial Forces of the Galactic Republic. She collaborated with the Galactic Senate's Diplomatic Corps and the Jedi Order's Council of Reconciliation. She achieved the rank of captain of the Radiant VII, a Consular-class space cruiser belonging to the Diplomatic Corps. In 32 BBY, due to a trade dispute, the Trade Federation initiated a blockade of the planet Naboo. Consequently, Madakor received the assignment to transport the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to the Naboo system so they could negotiate an end to the blockade on behalf of Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum of the Republic.

Alongside fellow Judicial officer Antidar Williams, Madakor piloted the Radiant VII. Upon their arrival in the Naboo system, they proceeded toward the Trade Federation flagship, the Saak'ak. Following Jinn's instructions, Madakor contacted Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray to inform him of their intention to board immediately, and she then landed the cruiser inside one of the Federation starship's primary hangar bays. After the Jedi disembarked to begin negotiations, Madakor and Williams remained inside the cockpit, awaiting their return.

Madakor's final order was to raise the shields.

After receiving directives from his master, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Gunray ordered the ambassadors of the Republic to be killed. Subsequently, a droid laser turret descended from the hangar bay's ceiling. Antidar noticed the turret and alerted Madakor, who then initiated an order to raise the Radiant VII's shields. However, before she could complete the command, the cruiser was obliterated, resulting in the immediate deaths of both pilots. Jinn and Kenobi managed to evade their would-be executioners and escaped the Saak'ak, eventually assisting the people of Naboo in defeating the Federation.

Personality and traits

Maoi Madakor had brown hair, brown eyes, and a light skin tone. Her height was 1.63 meters.

At the time of her death, Madakor was wearing a blue Judicial Forces uniform and was unarmed.

Behind the scenes

Bronagh Gallagher played Maoi Madakor in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The scenes set within the Radiant VII's cockpit were filmed on September 8, 1997. Within the new Star Wars canon, the character's name was first established in the 2017 reference book titled Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the character initially appeared in the novelization of The Phantom Menace, authored by Terry Brooks, which was released prior to the film.

While her surname initially appeared on a card in the 2001 Coruscant Limited expansion set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game, Madakor's first name was first mentioned in the 2002 magazine The Official Star Wars Fact File 33. In the original script for the film, Madakor's last line was not "Shields up!" but instead "No! Warn…," and a rough cut of the film recorded it as "Warn the Jedi!"
