Raid on an Imperial supply yard

During the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire, the rebel crew operating from the VCX-100 light freighter known as the Ghost launched a raid targeting an Imperial supply yard. This operation led to a battle that damaged the Ghost, which forced the crew to seek out replacement parts at Osisis Station to fix their ship.

The raid

As part of their resistance against the Imperial regime, the rebel crew of the VCX-100 light freighter Ghost executed an attack on a supply yard controlled by the Galactic Empire in 5 BBY. Kanan Jarrus, the leader of the rebels, masterminded the plan for the raid. The Ghost suffered damage during the assault, and initially, Jarrus struggled to defeat the attacking TIE/ln space superiority starfighters. However, with assistance from pilot Hera Syndulla and astromech droid C1-10P, the TIE fighters were eventually destroyed.

Aftermath

Galus Vez, aboard the Splendour, races Syndulla and the Ghost

To address the damage sustained by the Ghost, the crew journeyed to Osisis Station, a space station under the ownership of Galus Vez, a Besalisk parts dealer located in the Regani sector. Due to prior conflicts with the rebels, the Empire had increased its inspection activity at Osisis Station. Consequently, Vez proposed a bargain to the rebels: Syndulla would have to compete against Vez in a race known as the Fool's Run. If Vez emerged victorious, he would seize the Ghost. Conversely, if Syndulla won, the crew would be entitled to acquire the necessary parts. The race commenced, but Vez employed a thruster on an asteroid in an attempt to sabotage the Ghost. With the aid of Jarrus and his Jedi Padawan, who both employed the Force to propel an asteroid toward Vez's Gauntlet fighter, named the Splendour, Syndulla secured the win. Vez then tried to retaliate due to their victory, but the rebels fought back, overwhelming Vez and his forces. Therefore, Vez provided the crew with the components required to repair the Ghost.

Behind the scenes

The canon comic strip "Ring Race," penned by Martin Fisher, was the first time this raid was referenced. It was featured in the first issue of the Star Wars Rebels Magazine series, which was published on January 28, 2015. In response to a question on Twitter about whether the raid described in the story was the same as the raid depicted in the Star Wars Rebels short "The Machine in the Ghost," Fisher confirmed that they were the same event, and that the event from the short was his only reference for the animated series when writing the comic's script. However, the comic strip's events, including Ezra Bridger's presence, suggest that this raid must have occurred after the events of Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, where Bridger joined the crew; whereas "The Machine in the Ghost" took place before Spark of Rebellion.
