Rana Kant held the rank of Jedi Master within the Jedi Order, originating from the Duros species. Notably, she was the mentor who provided training to Stellan Gios.
Early in her life as a Jedi, Kant journeyed with pilgrims to the planet Castell. This experience, as noted by Jedi Master Harli Cogra, profoundly shaped Kant's perspective. Cogra wrote in Chronicles of the Jedi that Kant developed the belief that the most vital Jedi virtues could only be cultivated through extensive travel across the galaxy. As she aged, Kant rejected the concept of retirement, opting instead to remain an active member of the Jedi.
By the year 232 BBY, Kant held a position on the Jedi High Council, an offer she had previously declined at least twice. Her preference was to serve outside the confines of the Jedi Council Chamber, as this allowed her to offer more direct assistance to the citizens of the galaxy. In that particular year, Kant was present on Coruscant during a Council discussion regarding the Jedi's potential involvement in aiding the Republic Defense Coalition in their pursuit of the Nihil raiders, following the devastation of the Great Hyperspace Disaster. During this discussion, Master Oppo Rancisis made a comment regarding the Jedi's past participation in conflicts like the Great Sith War, to which Kant responded by pointing out that they were not currently engaged in war. Ultimately, Master Jora Malli cast the deciding vote, choosing to participate in the hunt.
Not long after the disaster, Kant died of natural causes. Gios, selected to succeed her on the Council, carried her lightsaber for a period of time as a tribute to her memory.
The character Rana Kant was initially mentioned in the 2020 reference book titled Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection. Her first appearance in a fictional narrative was in the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi. Notably, in the eBook version of the novel, Kant's first name is mistakenly spelled "Rano" when the character is first brought up during a Jedi Council meeting.
