The act of taking someone captive and demanding something in exchange for their release is known as a ransom. It can also refer to the payment itself in such an arrangement. During the era of the Clone Wars, Hondo Ohnaka, a pirate, captured Count Dooku, the Sith Lord, alongside the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on the planet of Florrum. He attempted to get the Galactic Republic to provide spice as a ransom, however, he was ultimately unsuccessful. Later in the conflict, [Asajj Ventress](/article/asajj_ventress], a former dark side assassin, took Pluma Sodi, a Kage girl, as a hostage. She only freed Sodi after Krismo, her brother, provided a payment of credits as a ransom.
