Reed, which is also referred to as reedug, was a substance known for its addictive properties. The Nihil member, Udi Dis, a Talortai, had suffered from a reedug addiction for approximately ten years, or nearly a decade. Just before joining Marchion Ro, the Eye of the Nihil, on an assignment to the planet Rystan, Dis received instructions to discard his supply. A shipment of reedug was pilfered from the Reekrider Cartel by one of Tempest Runner Pan Eyta's Strikes; as a result, a sample reached Dis, and while under the influence of the drug, he divulged to Eyta the internal mechanisms of Ro's flagship, the Gaze Electric, even revealing that Mari San Tekka was responsible for generating the Paths.
