Regent's quarters

The regent's quarters, which belonged to the Pijali monarchy, were situated within the Pijali palace. This palace was located on the planet Pijal in the Inner Rim territories. The quarters were positioned just one corridor away from the royal chamber of Pijali Princess Fanry. Although initially furnished with great beauty, Jedi Lord Regent Rael Averross modified most of the space during his stay to make it less opulent. In the year 40 BBY, Averross spent an evening in the regent's quarters accompanied by Selbie, a local woman.

Description

The regent's quarters, a component of the Pijali palace found on the planet Pijal within the Inner Rim, were beautifully decorated. The space consisted of a bed, an entryway, multiple chairs, and a fireplace. The Pijali monarchy designated these rooms for the planet's current regent, and they were located just one corridor away from the palace's royal chamber. Despite alterations made to diminish the extravagance of most other areas, the ceiling of the quarters remained richly adorned by 40 BBY.

History

Qui-Gon Jinn visited the regent's quarters while on Pijal.

Sometime between 48 BBY and 40 BBY, Jedi Lord Regent Rael Averross took up residence in the regent's quarters. This occurred during his mission to Pijal, where he was to serve as their lord regent. Over time, he modified the majority of the space to enhance his comfort, including replacing the chairs and leaving his belongings scattered in piles. In 40 BBY, Averross passed the night in the quarters with Selbie, a local hostess with whom he maintained a casual relationship.

Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who was present on Pijal for a mission, paid a visit to the rooms to converse with the regent regarding a violent vision he had experienced. His arrival interrupted Averross and Selbie's time together, prompting the hostess to quickly leave the palace. The two Jedi briefly debated the Jedi Code's stipulations concerning attachments, and subsequently discussed the Jedi Master's vision. Averross assured Jinn that he was likely stressed due to the demands of the mission on Pijal, and that his difficulties with his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, would eventually resolve themselves. Shortly thereafter, they overheard Pijali Princess Fanry screaming from her royal chamber and promptly exited the rooms together to offer assistance. Several days later, following the princess's unsuccessful coronation, Averross remained in the regent's quarters for a brief period as he prepared to depart from Pijal.

Behind the scenes

The regent's quarters are featured in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel authored by Claudia Gray. In an interview, Gray revealed that she included the scene in which Jinn interrupts Averross and Selbie in the quarters to emphasize the varying perspectives among Jedi regarding the acceptability of casual physical relationships.
