Rekkon

Rekkon, the only child of a middle-class family residing in the Roundtree system, excelled academically from a young age. He rapidly mastered various subjects and dedicated his spare time to learning how to slice computers. His parents instilled in him a deep respect and appreciation for education, which in turn led him to tutor struggling students. Through this experience, he discovered his passion for teaching. This passion motivated him to become an educator, and he quickly gained popularity as a lecturer, attracting large audiences to his speeches on independence and freedom of inquiry. Eventually, he received a prestigious offer to serve as a dean at the University of Kalla in the Corporate Sector, near where his brother and family had previously relocated. There, he developed a close bond with his nephew, Tchaka, a previously unmotivated student in whom Rekkon cultivated a love for history and philosophy. Following the untimely death of Tchaka's parents, Rekkon assumed the role of a paternal figure, raising the boy as if he were his own son.

However, within the Corporate Sector, Rekkon encountered political obstacles that were unfamiliar to him from his past. As a fervent believer in liberty and free expression, Rekkon's views clashed significantly with the totalitarian Corporate Sector Authority, leading him to seek subtle means of undermining their policies. While Rekkon possessed the skill to carefully navigate the system, his nephew Tchaka lacked such restraint. Ardently sharing his uncle's principles, Tchaka openly criticized the Corporate Sector Authority, drawing several children of Authority officials into his orbit. This attracted unwanted attention, labeling him as a "dangerous revolutionary." Although Rekkon planned to resign from his position to safeguard Tchaka, his nephew vanished suddenly before he could act. Rekkon's repeated inquiries regarding Tchaka's whereabouts were met with stonewalling by the Authority's Security Police, prompting the academic to examine the issue more broadly. Rekkon came to the realization that Tchaka was not the only dissident to have mysteriously disappeared within the Corporate Sector, and he successfully assembled a group of like-minded citizens who were also searching for their missing loved ones.

By 2 BBY, Rekkon's search party had expanded to include Atuarre and Pakka, a Trianii mother and her cub, Torm Dadeferron, a landowner from the Kail Ranges who served as his second-in-command, and a young man named Engret. With this core group established, Rekkon and his new allies commenced their investigation, focusing their eyes on the Authority Data Center located on Orron III. Under the pretense of conducting research for an agricultural project, Rekkon made several trips to Orron III over the following months, where he found an opportunity to refresh his slicing skills and forge authorization to access the Data Center's systems. This enabled him and his group to gradually infiltrate the Authority installation, with Rekkon posing as a new computer programmer and other team members posing as various workers. However, during their month-long stay on Orron III, Authority troops began appearing in suspicious locations, leading Rekkon to suspect the presence of an informant within his group. Furthermore, two of his team members were killed on Orron III after Rekkon believed they had identified the mole. In response, Rekkon contacted Jessa Vandangante, a sympathetic outlaw tech whose father, Klaus, was among the missing, and requested a favor.

Vandangante connected Rekkon with Han Solo, a notorious Corellian smuggler who could assist in uncovering the mole and providing Rekkon's group with transportation off Orron III once they had obtained the necessary data. In exchange, Solo requested repairs to his starship, the Millennium Falcon, and a waiver allowing it to operate freely within Corporate Sector space—the latter of which Rekkon could provide.

Upon their arrival on Orron III, Rekkon soon met Solo and his Wookiee companion Chewbacca, discovering that the newcomers had brought along two droids, Bollux and Blue Max, which could expedite the process of downloading the required data. Rekkon and his new partners returned to the Authority Data Center, leading them back to his office to allow the droids to analyze the vast amount of information stored within the facility. They were soon joined by the rest of their group, except for one: Atuarre and Pakka arrived with the news that Engret had mysteriously disappeared. Blue Max swiftly completed the download, revealing that the Security Police had uncovered their activity and were closing in on their location, forcing Rekkon and his crew to evacuate. Blue Max accessed the facility's alarm system to trigger alerts across the planet, creating enough confusion to give the interlopers a chance to escape. Despite this, the group had to fight their way out of the Data Center, eventually stealing a ground skimmer and making a run for the local spaceport and the Millennium Falcon.

However, before they could reach safety, a Security Police hovervan overtook their skimmer, causing it to crash violently into a field outside the city. Rekkon took charge amidst the chaos, arming his disruptor pistol to disable the approaching hovervan as they made their way to the spaceport on foot. Chewbacca commandeered a nearby grain harvester to serve as a getaway vehicle, but in the process, the Wookiee was captured by a squad of Security Police and hauled away. To prevent Solo from pursuing his friend, Rekkon was forced to knock him unconscious. Rekkon helped Solo onto the harvester, where they regrouped with Atuarre, Pakka, Dadeferron, and the two droids, ultimately boarding the Millennium Falcon and finally taking off from Orron III.

Rekkon and his crew escaped Orron III with the data they sought, but the Millennium Falcon had barely entered hyperspace when Rekkon's worst fears were confirmed. Rekkon sat down at the freighter's dejarik board to analyze the data plaque retrieved from Orron III, discovering that the device indicated that the Corporate Sector's missing individuals were being held at a facility called Stars' End on the desolate asteroid Mytus VII. As Rekkon was engrossed in his findings, the Authority informant he had been trying to uncover—Torm Dadeferron—approached him from behind and killed him with a blaster bolt to the back, destroying the data plaque in the process. However, in his final moments, Rekkon managed to shakily scrawl "Stars' End, Mytus VII" on the gameboard, preserving the hope of rescuing the prisoners. Solo, assuming command of Rekkon's group in his memory, not only exposed and killed the traitor Dadeferron but also led Atuarre, Pakka, and the two droids to the Stars' End prison, where they freed the thousands of prisoners held there, including Rekkon's nephew.

Rekkon possessed exceptional insight and the ability to always perceive the broader context, equipping him with the necessary personal qualities to succeed in any endeavor he pursued. However, Rekkon was not interested in power, glory, fame, or wealth; his primary concerns were knowledge and truth. He was raised to value others and believe in the importance of education, which contributed to his significant academic achievements. Along his journey, he discovered a passion for assisting others in learning, leading him to his career as a teacher. The values instilled in him during his upbringing shaped the principles he espoused in his well-attended lectures: freedom of expression, liberty, and empathy. He found these principles to be in conflict with the ruthless and totalitarian Corporate Sector, but never content to submit to an unjust system, Rekkon sought ways to undermine its policies. A calm and rational individual, he was able to navigate the system carefully to avoid serious repercussions from the Corporate Sector government—a skill that his young and impetuous nephew Tchaka lacked.

In his search for Tchaka and the other missing individuals of the Corporate Sector, Rekkon's intelligence and insight proved invaluable. His attention to detail and meticulousness enabled him to successfully infiltrate the Authority Data Center on Orron III, earning him the admiration and loyalty of his team. Rekkon, a broad and powerful man, exuded authority while maintaining an amiable personal manner that easily garnered respect from those around him, including droids. Even Han Solo, a notorious rogue with little regard for authority, came to view Rekkon as one of the finest individuals he had ever encountered. He also demonstrated unwavering commitment to his cause, dedicating himself entirely to saving the missing individuals, even at the expense of his own life. In addition to his leadership and intangible qualities, Rekkon possessed a range of practical skills that aided him in his quest to find the Corporate Sector's missing. He was a skilled and experienced computer slicer, a pursuit he had engaged in since his youth in the Roundtree system. Physically strong, he was adept at handling himself in combat, skillfully wielding a disruptor pistol and maneuvering in the line of fire. He was also multilingual, possessing fluency in Shyriiwook, a rare trait among Humans.

Rekkon made his debut appearance in Han Solo at Stars' End, a novel authored by Brian Daley and released in 1979. Rekkon was subsequently depicted by Alfredo Alcala in the story's comic adaptation, and by Mike Vilardi in 1993's Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook. The Han Solo at Stars' End comic inaccurately portrays Rekkon as searching for his missing son, while the novel and other sources depict him as searching for his nephew, Tchaka.
