The Republic Pathfinders were responsible for carrying out explorations within the Outer Rim Territories on behalf of the Galactic Republic, frequently collaborating with the Jedi Order. It was common for EX droids to provide support to Republic Pathfinders during their discoveries, with these droids transmitting information back to the communications teams that aided the Pathfinders. The assigned purpose of the Pathfinders was to discover new hyperspace routes and create a communications infrastructure throughout the Rim. A typical Pathfinder team was made up of a Jedi Master accompanied by their Padawan, along with a pilot, a medic, and an EX droid.
In 382 BBY, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai headed up a Pathfinder team on an expedition destined for Orvax; this represented her first undertaking as leader of a Pathfinder team, and it ultimately resulted in failure for Nattai.
Jedi Master Silandra Sho also commanded her own Pathfinder team.
Jedi Master Rok Buran was in charge of Outer Rim Expedition Two-Five-Two which was an Expedition to Gloam. Regrettably, the pathfinder team was double-crossed by Rillik and the whole team, with the exception of Master Buran, was killed. During that same period, Alonso San Tekka and Yarli Yren both served as Republic Pathfinders.
