The Rings of Vaale were created by the Architects of Vaale, an age-old civilization that has been lost to time. They were located in the city of Vaale on the planet Dianth. The myths speak of two distinct rings: one bestowing immortality while simultaneously causing insanity, and another granting unending luck, but accelerating the wearer's death. It was believed that when worn in conjunction, the rings granted immense power. The Rings were thought to be cursed, with stories claiming they held the entire city captive, tainting the atmosphere itself. Very few stories exist of adventurers traveling to Dianth, and the few survivors, driven to insanity, recounted witnessing indescribable terrors. In the Imperial Era, Detta Yao, an archaeology student, enlisted the services of the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Aphra to unearth the Rings, hoping to base her dissertation on the artifact. Aphra accepted the assignment, fully understanding the artifact's worth, only to discover that Ronen Tagge, a member of the influential House of Tagge, was also in pursuit of the Rings.
