Roast shatual was a culinary dish enjoyed by many members of the Mandalorian society. This meal was created using the flesh of a shatual, an animal species that lived in the veshok-tree forests of Mandalore. Mandalore, the cultural homeworld of the Mandalorians, was situated in the Outer Rim territories of the galaxy. The process involved butchering the animal, followed by roasting its meat over a flame until it was fully cooked. The roasted shatual was then carved into slices and served as a meal.
During the year 21 BBY, a strill named Lord Mirdalan hunted down and killed a shatual. After the hunt, Lord Mirdalan brought the shatual back to Clan Skirata at their Kyrimorut home on Mandalore. Rav Bralor, a friend of the family, then butchered the animal and roasted the shatual over a fire. That evening, the extended clan enjoyed the resulting meal. Afterwards, Jedi Knight Etain Tur-Mukan took slices of the leftover roast shatual back to Omega Squad, the unit of clone commandos she was with; her lover Darman was among them.
Later, in 19 BBY, after the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Skirata clan members prepared roast shatual at their home once more. Numerous members of the clan then enjoyed slices of the flame-cooked meat at their leisure.
The first appearance of roast shatual in Star Wars canon was in the 2007 novel Republic Commando: True Colors. This novel was the third book in the Republic Commando series written by Karen Traviss.
