Ryder, a male Human from the New Republic, served within Grey Squadron. This squadron was under the command of X2, a clone strong in the Force. Ryder was among the pilots of Grey Squadron who went with X2 to the planet of Dathomir. Their mission was to find X2's brother, X1, an Imperial warlord. During this effort, Ryder died because of sabotage. One of X1's Imperials had rigged the squadron's X-wings with detpacks.
Ryder, a light-skinned male Human, was a pilot in Grey Squadron, a military unit of the New Republic led by the Force-sensitive clone known as X2. Sometime between 11 ABY and 19 ABY, Ryder joined X2 and the rest of Grey Squadron on a mission to the planet Dathomir. X2's goal was to locate his genetic brother, X1, who had become a warlord after the death of Galactic Emperor Palpatine and was attempting to dominate the galaxy.
Upon their arrival on the planet in their X-wing starfighters, Grey Squadron decided to land in the swamps of the planet to avoid being detected. The squadron soon learned that X1 had a base on Dathomir, and X2 felt that his brother was working on something important there. However, X1 had left the planet, and his base was soon attacked by the Nightsister clan of Dathomiri Witches. After defeating both the Nightsisters and X1's Imperials, X2 and Shara, a member of Grey Squadron, entered the base—revealed to be X1's cloning laboratory—to retrieve important data from X1's office, leaving Ryder and the other pilots at a landing pad with their starfighters.

However, while X2 and Shara were gone, an Imperial loyal to X1 infiltrated the landing site without being seen and placed detpacks on the squadron's X-wings. The resulting explosions killed most of Grey Squadron and destroyed their starfighters. Ryder was badly wounded and eventually died, but he lived long enough to see X2 and Shara return. Grey Squadron captured the saboteur, and X2, in anger, used the Force to choke him. He then led the remaining members of his squadron in an attack on an Imperial-class Star Destroyer in orbit, destroying it as revenge.
Ryder made an appearance in the Nintendo DS version of Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, a video game from 2009 published by LucasArts.
