A Human male named Ryso resided on Ord Mantell as a young boy during the period known as the Cold War, a time of tension between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire.
During the Great Galactic War, Ryso spent his childhood in Talloran village, located on Ord Mantell. The Cold War saw the Mantellian Separatist Movement initiate a civil war to break away from the Republic. Separatist forces attacked Ryso's village, Talloran. The villagers were forced to evacuate as the separatists pillaged and destroyed much of Talloran, and the settlers sought refuge at the nearby Fort Garnik.
The displaced settlers established a camp just outside the Republic base. During this period, Ryso experienced pain due to an untreated medical issue or injury. While treatable, the lack of necessary supplies prevented proper care. Yael, a Cathar refugee, managed to pilfer medical supplies from the Republic after one of Sergeant Hurd's men fell asleep while guarding Garnik's latest medical shipment. However, before Yael could distribute the stolen supplies, a group of separatists intercepted her and seized the shipment.
Ryso pleaded with Yael for medicine to alleviate his painful symptoms, but she was unable to help him. Immediately following this exchange, a smuggler and a Republic trooper, dispatched by Sergeant Hurd to recover the lost medication, confronted Yael about the missing supplies and their whereabouts, while Ryso was present. Yael convinced the pair to retrieve the medicine and return it to her, which they successfully did. Subsequently, Yael provided Ryso with the medicine he needed for his pain.
Ryso's sole appearance thus far occurs in the BioWare MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, specifically within the "Mercy" mission on Ord Mantell. He is first encountered upon approaching Yael. During the ensuing conversation, players have the option to threaten Ryso's life as a dark side choice to coerce Yael into revealing the location of the medicine. Imperial players are currently unable to interact with Ryso, as they cannot access Ord Mantell.
