Sami (Cantrosian)

Sami, a Cantrosian male, was a member of a faction from Cantros that demonstrated allegiance to the Rebel Alliance. In the year 4 ABY, he found himself embroiled in a conspiracy within his own home system, fighting alongside the celebrated heroes of the Rebellion against what was thought to be an Imperial cell. Sami came to the realization that Durne, a close comrade, was actually the one pulling the strings, and that the supposed enemies were in fact loyal to the Rebellion. After the apprehension of the traitor, Sami and his partner Minka devoted themselves to mending the fractured relationships amongst their people and discovering common ground.

Biography

Trouble in the Cantros system

Sami and Han Solo, both shocked to discover the allegiance of their captors

Born on Cantros 7, a world located in the Outer Rim and the capital of the Cantrosian region, Sami was a male of Cantrosian descent. He belonged to a Cantrosian faction that remained loyal to the Rebel Alliance, collaborating with fellow combatants Minka and the intelligence coordinator Durne. Based on the information provided by Durne, Sami and his faction members came to believe that a rival Cantrosian faction had pledged allegiance to the Galactic Empire and were receiving directives directly from Emperor Palpatine.

During the events of 4 ABY, Sami was stationed at an asteroid base within the Cantros system. Minka departed to seek assistance from the nearest Rebel base, but she was attacked by Y-wing pilots from the opposing faction. Her X-wing starfighter was shot down on the planet Saijo, but the Rebel heroes Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker rescued her. Minka then escorted the heroes back to the asteroid base, introducing them to both Sami and Durne. The Rebels revealed to the Cantrosians that there was no evidence of Imperial activity in the Cantros system, which made Sami question the true nature of their conflict. Durne stood firm, insisting on the reliability of his intelligence network's reports, but Solo proposed that the Rebels investigate the opposing faction. Subsequently, Sami and Minka accompanied them aboard Solo's starship, the renowned Millennium Falcon, to the base of the faction suspected of Imperial allegiance, located on a nearby planet.

A traitor exposed

Sami and Solo reveal their allegiance.

While traveling on the Falcon with Minka, Sami engaged Skywalker and his companions in thoughtful questioning about the Rebellion's activities, though the Rebels withheld the full extent of their heroic deeds. The Falcon then sustained enemy fire from more Cantrosian Y-wings, forcing it to land in a ravine on the rival faction's planet. Observing the steepness of the fissure's sides, Sami was astounded as Skywalker employed the Force to levitate Organa and Minka to safety. The local faction, under the leadership of the Cantrosian Niru, converged on the ravine, and Sami was captured along with Skywalker and Solo. Sami was taken aback when he discovered that their captors were, in fact, Rebels, and he joined Solo in emphatically declaring their allegiance.

Sami's shock soon turned to anger when Durne made an appearance, instructing Niru and her subordinates to kill their captives, accusing them of being Imperial sympathizers. Durne had been manipulating the situation, having been commissioned by Nagai commander Knife to incite distrust and internal conflict among the Cantrosians by falsely suggesting that some were allied with the Empire. The situation escalated into an all-out battle when Organa and Minka intervened. Knowing that both sides were allies, Sami directed Minka to set her blaster to stun as she entered the conflict. Durne was captured, and with the tensions between the factions diffused, Sami and Minka began interacting with the other members of the Rebel cell, learning about each other and forging a mutual connection.
