Serja Kesselrook was a nomadic male Human wanderer. Living within an underground society on the planet Patch-4, he was a refugee whose original home had been seized by the Galactic Empire. On Patch-4, Kesselrook integrated into a close-knit group of fellow "hoboes," but their newfound sanctuary faced a threat from a massive watchbeast named Ceasar. During 3 ABY, Kesselrook played a role in assisting Rebel leaders Lando Calrissian and Luke Skywalker in subduing Ceasar and securing valuable goods on the planet.
As a male Human, Serja Kesselrook became a refugee due to the Imperial actions during the Galactic Civil War, losing his home in the process. Displaced and without a permanent residence, Kesselrook joined others in secretly boarding freighters and traversing the galaxy, seeking a new place to call home. He eventually arrived on the junkyard planet of Patch-4, where he became part of a substantial community of "hoboes" who were establishing a close-knit society on the foul-smelling world. Kesselrook adapted well to life on Patch-4, but the hoboes' existence was disrupted by the arrival of Orion Ferret, an offworld arms dealer who began storing merchandise on Patch-4 and deployed his personal watchbeast Ceasar to safeguard his assets. This watchbeast spread terror throughout Kesselrook's community, forcing them to seek refuge underground.
Although the hoboes discovered they could control the beast using a sonic pacifier in Ferret's possession, they lacked the means to acquire it until 3 ABY, when Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian, two Rebel leaders, arrived, seeking to finalize a starfighter deal with Ferret. After Ferret betrayed them, leaving them vulnerable to Ceasar, the Rebels stumbled upon the underground hobo community, where Kesselrook greeted them warmly. Kesselrook informed Skywalker and Calrissian about the pacifier, enabling the Rebels to pacify the beast and retrieve their cargo. Subsequently, Skywalker and Calrissian entrusted the device to Kesselrook and the hoboes, effectively restoring their control over their world.
Serja Kesselrook was a man of considerable size, known for his sociable and affectionate nature. He spoke Basic with a distinctive accent and greatly valued the sense of community he found among his fellow "hoboes" on Patch-4. While physical confrontation was not his strength, Kesselrook offered crucial assistance to Calrissian and Skywalker during their encounter with Ceasar, which ultimately led to the hoboes' liberation.
The character of Serja Kesselrook made his debut in Star Wars 59, which was written by David Michelinie, illustrated by Walter Simonson, and released in 1982.
