Sha Qarot's celestial body, a star, was located in the Sha Qarot system of the Deep Core. Its position was within the Interior, specifically at grid reference L-12 on the Standard Galactic Grid. This star was orbited by the planet Sha Qarot, a world characterized by a poisonous atmosphere and a volcanic terrain. Furthermore, Sha Qarot itself was circled by the moon known as Fex. The red star seemed immense when observed from Fex, and it was responsible for the moon's purple-tinged environment.
Fex served as the home for various non-sentient species, notably including the Fexian skullborer, an alpha predator. During their research activities on Fex, sometime around 0 ABY, personnel from the Kelen Biolabs biotech firm employed containers equipped with glow panels. These panels simulated the ultraviolet light and radiation emitted by Sha Qarot's star, with the intention of capturing Fexian skullborers.
The initial appearance of Sha Qarot's star occurred in Heir to the Jedi, a novel published in 2015 and authored by Kevin Hearne. An illustration of it was featured on the cover of the novel's Brazilian-language version, created by Two Dots Illustration.
