Shalla Ro's mother

An Evereni female person existed in the High Republic Era. She eventually masterminded the pirate group called the Nihil, which was initially established by the Evereni Marda Ro, for the purpose of using it as a weapon to combat the Jedi Order. Years prior to 252 BBY, she gave birth to a daughter, named Shalla Ro, who was the granddaughter of Marda. By the year 252 BBY, Shalla had risen to become the leader of the Nihil and preferred to secretly expand the organization until the opportune moment arrived to attack the Jedi.

In that same year, Shalla had a disagreement with her son, Asgar Ro, regarding their strategies for the Nihil while they were on board their flagship, the Gaze Electric. During their exchange, Asgar pointed out that Shalla's mother had not intended for the Nihil to remain inactive for such an extended period, as they were created to be a weapon. Shalla responded by stating that they needed to wait patiently for the right time to launch their attack. Ultimately, Asgar killed his mother during their argument and assumed control of the Nihil.

Behind the scenes

The mother of Shalla Ro was initially alluded to in flashback sequences within the first issue of the 2022 comic miniseries, Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm, which was launched as a component of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I. This issue was penned by Charles Soule and released by Marvel Comics on January 12, 2022. The 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy erroneously claims that Marda Ro is the mother of Shalla.
