Shield trio

A shield trio represented a strategy for starfighter combat, innovated by the New Jedi Order throughout the Yuuzhan Vong War. This maneuver involved a trio of starfighters flying in a tight formation, expanding their deflector shields and inertial compensators to create a layered protective field encompassing all three ships. This offered enhanced protection against Yuuzhan Vong coralskippers trying to deplete shields with their dovin basals. Furthermore, this approach enabled the participating fighters to focus their combined firepower on a single yorik-et, surpassing its void-based defenses for rapid elimination.

History

The shield trio's value was first demonstrated during the Battle of Talfaglio, where Shocker Squadron illustrated its capabilities when the Jedi confronted the Vong forces within the system. Luke Skywalker, commanding the Jedi group in that engagement, and supported by the Star Destroyers Mon Mothma and Elegos A'kla, promptly recognized the efficiency of this novel strategy. Consequently, he directed his entire force to implement it. Subsequently, the shield trio became a fundamental element of New Republic and, subsequently, Galactic Alliance starfighter combat principles for the rest of the conflict.
