Skakoverbal, a sophisticated and intricate language, served as the native tongue of the Skakoan species, exhibiting certain parallels to Binary. The Skakoform writing system, used during the era of the Galactic Civil War, featured symbols that resembled complex circuitry. A majority of Skakoans did not acquire proficiency in Galactic Basic Standard, primarily because only a small number of them left their homeworld, Skako. Consequently, those who did venture to other worlds often relied on translation modules integrated into their protective pressure suits. Due to the inherent complexity of Skakoverbal, these modules sometimes produced nonsensical sounds when attempting to simplify the language for translation. During a meeting of the Separatist Council on the planet Geonosis in 22 BBY, Techno Union Foreman Wat Tambor initially communicated in Skakoverbal before activating his suit's translator to convert his words into Basic. Later, in 34 ABY, the scavenger Hobin Carsamba was heard speaking Skakoverbal while waiting in line at junk boss Unkar Plutt's Concession Stand located in Niima Outpost on the planet Jakku.
The first appearance of Skakoverbal occurred in the 2002 motion picture Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. Its formal identification as Skakoverbal within the new Star Wars canon took place in Fully Operational, a 2018 sourcebook associated with the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games. The name's origin can be traced back to the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was initially used in the 2002 publication Star Wars Gamer 10. Hobin Carsamba's use of Skakoverbal in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens was a result of staff members at Skywalker Sound noticing the character's visual similarities to Wat Tambor.
