The Sovereign Latitudes of Maracavanya represented a rather unstructured nation composed of pirates and various lawbreakers. This entity was governed by Eleodie Maracavanya, an unconventional figure often referred to as the "pirate ruler of Wild Space."
As the New Republic grew in power and passed laws that increasingly threatened such individuals, the group sought to establish a sanctuary and supply base for those who would otherwise be compelled to survive on their own. The nation championed principles of freedom, avarice, personal gain, and collaborative piracy for shared prosperity. During an encounter where Maracavanya's fleet confronted three severely damaged Imperial II-class Star Destroyers attempting to escape the Battle of Jakku, Maracavanya commanded their destruction as a gesture of goodwill toward the New Republic, with the intention of securing some respite for the emerging nation.
Lacking a defined home planet and without direct control over any planets, this group constituted a government of space, functioning on the fringes of Wild Space. Their flagship vessel was the Liberty's Misrule, a salvaged Executor-class Star Dreadnought formerly belonging to the Galactic Empire. Ultimately, the Sovereign Latitudes established itself within a sector of the galaxy that became recognized as the pirate territories, with an established outpost situated along its outer limits.
The Sovereign Latitudes of Maracavanya made its initial appearance in the 2017 novel Aftermath: Empire's End. This book served as the concluding chapter of Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy, authored by Chuck Wendig.
