The Sprizen sector designated a specific sector located within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, and it was the home of the planet known as Abafar.
The initial appearance of the Sprizen sector occurred in The Keeper's World. This was a Star Wars Legends comic narrative that was published across nine issues of the Marvel Comics magazine, Pizzazz, spanning from October of 1977 to June of 1978. Its formal identification came later, within The Essential Atlas Online Companion, a collection of articles on StarWars.com that followed the publication of the Star Wars Legends reference work The Essential Atlas, authored by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace.
The Sprizen sector entered the realm of canon with its inclusion in "A Sunny Day in the Void," which was the eleventh episode of fifth season of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The name "Sprizen sector" was officially established as canon by Ultimate Star Wars, a reference book collaboratively written by Patricia Barr, Adam Bray, Daniel Wallace, and Ryder Windham and released on April 28 of 2015. However, in 2024, a later edition of that book, titled Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy, mistakenly placed Abafar within the Quellii sector.
