Star Wars: The Clone Wars (toy line)

The Star Wars: The Clone Wars series of toys was available from 2008 until 2013. This product line, a creation of Hasbro, was designed to coincide with the release of the film and the subsequent television show that shared its name.

Background

The official public reveal of The Clone Wars toy collection occurred at the 2008 Toy Fair, held in New York City. During this event, Hasbro presented the initial assortment of action figures, along with the mail-in exclusive Captain Rex figure. Vehicles such as the V-19 Torrent starfighter and the OG-9 homing spider droid were also showcased, in addition to one of Hasbro's first large-scale vehicles, the All Terrain Tactical Enforcer. The second of these large-scale vehicles was the massive clone turbo tank. Hasbro began advertising Captain Rex shortly after the Toy Fair; however, due to internal issues, the figure's release was delayed until around July 26, the launch date for the entire collection.

The complete toy line was launched alongside the Legacy Collection during the fourth "midnight madness" event. The figures in this series were characterized by a stylized, animated design, mirroring the aesthetic of the computer-animated movie and TV show. This contrasted with the more realistic appearance of earlier figures, including those inspired by the earlier Clone Wars cartoon. Furthermore, these figures incorporated action features, such as weaponry that "launched" projectiles. The standard packaging for the basic line displayed a clone trooper helmet, with certain figures having "First Day of Issue" stickers. As in the past, retailers such as Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Target were granted exclusive figures. The retail partnerships even went so far as to match the retailers' corporate colors, with Wal-Mart receiving an exclusive 501st Legion clone trooper to match their corporate colors, and Target receiving the exclusive Commander Fox to match their red color scheme.

Basic Line Figures

The first release of the Basic Line figures was on July 26, 2008, and production has continued up to the present. The initial assortment consisted of 25 individually packaged figures, presented on blue and white cards shaped like a Clone Trooper helmet. This packaging design was used until July 2009, when it was replaced by smaller, red packaging. The total number of figures that will be released in the new packaging is currently unknown, but the line includes both new figures and some that were previously available in the older packaging.
