Star Wars: Vector

Star Wars Vector

The comic book narrative titled Star Wars: Vector was presented to readers by Dark Horse back in 2008. This tale was crafted by writers John Ostrander together with John Jackson Miller, and it detailed the experiences of a solitary character as they moved through the established timelines of Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Times, Rebellion, and Legacy. At the center of the entire storyline is the character Celeste Morne.

The plot unfolded sequentially, starting with Knights of the Old Republic, advancing to Dark Times, then Rebellion, and culminating in Legacy, where each segment functioned as a largely independent story. Ostrander noted that the repercussions of Vector were meant to have a long-term effect on all four comic series, influencing the future narrative direction of Legacy based on the events that transpired in Vector. Jan Duursema created the artwork specifically for the Legacy portion of the crossover. Vector has been compiled into a pair of trade paperbacks, the initial one encompassing Knights of the Old Republic and Dark Times, and the subsequent one featuring Rebellion and Legacy.

A chilling premonition, extending over 4,000 years into the future, alerts the clandestine Jedi Covenant to the significance of Taris, prompting them to activate an agent already stationed on this Mandalorian-infested world. Within the perilous Undercity, a formidable and ancient menace is unleashed, thrusting Zayne Carrick, the Padawan falsely accused of murdering his peers, into an epic journey. This adventure will ultimately span four millennia and involve iconic figures such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and the main characters of the Legacy series.

The aforementioned ancient menace is the Muur Talisman, which is a golden Sith relic shaped like an insect, distinguished by a single, jeweled eye. The Muur Talisman was forged by Karness Muur, a Sith Lord, and it possessed the capability to contaminate all individuals lacking Force-sensitivity with the dreaded Rakghoul Plague. Additionally, the talisman housed Muur's very essence, aiming to seize control of the mind of any Force-sensitive individual who dared to wear it, thereby manipulating the Rakghouls through them.

Zayne Carrick in conjunction with Celeste Morne discovered the talisman on Taris, but the artifact latched onto Morne. Subsequently, Carrick confined her within a Sith-engineered suspended animation sarcophagus, promising to summon assistance. She remained in this state of suspended animation for millennia. The crew of the Uhumele retrieved the sarcophagus, leading to conflicts among various factions vying for its possession.

Celeste Morne experienced reanimation on an uninhabited moon. During this period, she briefly engaged in combat with Darth Vader, all the while resisting the influence of Muur's spirit. Vader found himself compelled to withdraw when the Rakghoul plague commenced to overwhelm his forces. Morne was abandoned, left only with her mindless rakghouls and the presence of a Sith spirit to keep her company.

Years later, Vader orchestrated a trap for the Rebels by disseminating false intelligence suggesting that the moon where Morne had been abandoned housed an Imperial secret weapon. Luke Skywalker, accompanied by Leia Organa and Han Solo, spearheaded a recovery mission to the moon. Upon arrival, many of the Rebels succumbed to the plague or fell victim to the Rakghouls themselves. Luke engaged Morne in battle but was ultimately defeated. Leia intervened, briefly becoming possessed by the Muur Talisman. However, Morne, now liberated from the talisman's control, made the conscious decision to reclaim the talisman, ensuring that Muur's spirit remained confined with her. She, along with her rakghouls, managed to escape aboard one of the Rebel vessels.

More than a century later, Morne, now commanding a rakghoul-infested Star Destroyer, intercepted Cade Skywalker and his allies during their attempt to assassinate Sith Emperor Darth Krayt. Impressed by Cade's unique ability to overcome the Rakghoul plague through his Dark transfer ability, Morne decided to join forces with him in the endeavor to defeat Krayt.
