Jedi Master Stellan Gios's lightsaber was a crossguard lightsaber that projected a blue lightsaber blade. Its hilt was designed with a cylindrical shape and featured a color scheme of silver and black, accented with gold. A physical crossguard was situated just below the blade emitters; when the lightsaber was activated, this crossguard extended to support the smaller quillon beams, and when deactivated, it retracted to make the weapon easier to carry.
In the year 232 BBY, Gios was present at the dedication ceremony for the Starlight Beacon. During this event, Gios, along with many other Jedi, ignited their lightsabers and raised them towards the stars, creating a radiant display that symbolized the hope that the Beacon was meant to spread throughout the Republic. In 231 BBY, aboard the Coruscant Dawn, Gios engaged in a practice duel with Jedi Knight Nib Assek, ultimately winning. This demonstration was part of an extensive report by GoNet reporter Rhil Dairo about the upcoming Valo Republic Fair.
Following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, where Gios gave his life to save others, the logistics droid JJ-5145 entrusted the lightsaber of the deceased Jedi to Jedi Master Elzar Mann, one of Gios's closest companions.
A replica of Gios's lightsaber appeared during the era of the Galactic Civil War.
The initial detailed description of Stellan Gios's lightsaber was provided in the 2020 reference book Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection, authored by Daniel Wallace and featuring illustrations by Lukasz Liszko and Ryan Valle. The weapon made its debut in the first issue of the comic series Star Wars: The High Republic, penned by Cavan Scott, with artwork by Ario Anindito, and published by Marvel Comics on January 6, 2021.
Michael Siglain stated that the lightsaber's design drew inspiration from the legendary sword Excalibur.
