The stone guardians, also referenced as Zardossa droids, Zardossa Stix statues, or the clay warriors of Zardossa Stix, represented a droid model deployed on the moon of Zardossa Stix, specifically outside the Temple of Malmourral. Their outward appearance belied their true composition; rather than actual stone, they were meticulously crafted and painted to mimic the look of ornamental statues or stone pillars. Furthermore, they symbolized an ancient, vanquished army. According to Zardossan lore, these statues were the sole reason the warriors remained dead; their destruction would trigger the warriors' resurrection.
These stone guardians possessed a highly sensitive "Night-sight" passive sensor array, granting them exceptional vision in low-light and complete darkness, as well as the ability to detect a wide spectrum of sounds. Approaching or touching a guardian's territory would trigger its activation, transforming it into a semi-humanoid figure seemingly animated by mysterious forces. The droids were also equipped with formidable heavy energy projectors capable of unleashing devastating energy blasts.
In 232 BBY, Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus, Jedi Knight Orla Jareni, and Padawan Reath Silas stumbled upon a group of four statues that, unbeknownst to them initially, served as containment for the sentient carnivorous plants known as the Drengir, holding them in a state of suspended animation. As Vitus began to grasp the statues' true function, he recalled the legends of the clay warriors and shared this information with Jareni, who was also familiar with those tales.
In 19 BBY, the Temple was infiltrated by the Frangawl Cult, who had control over both the Temple of Malmourral and, by extension, the stone guardians. Soon after the cult's arrival, they were followed by Jedi Master Mace Windu and Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks. As they neared the temple, Binks inadvertently made contact with one of the stone guardians, causing all of them to awaken and launch an assault on both Binks and Windu. After a short conflict, all of the guardians protecting the temple were destroyed, and Binks managed to seize one of their heavy energy projectors.
