Turr Phennir, who held the title of Supreme Commander for the Confederation's military during the Second Galactic Civil War
The Supreme Commander of the Confederation military was the designation given to the commanding officer of the Confederation's military forces.
The Supreme Commander position came into existence around 40 ABY, concurrent with the Five Worlds situated within the Corellian system uniting in their conflict against the Galactic Alliance, a union that also encompassed worlds such as Bothawui and Commenor. To lead their combined military forces, the allied governments felt the need to identify a relatively unbiased military figure, and new planets were persuaded to join the Confederacy with the understanding that one of their commanders could be chosen as a compromise option.
With the assimilation of the Corellian Defense Force into the broader Confederation military structure, the office of Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Force was eliminated, making way for the newly established role of Supreme Commander of the Confederation.
The Confederation intentionally misled the Alliance, suggesting that a conference was to be held at Gilatter VIII to decide who would be the new Supreme Commander. However, General Turr Phennir had already been secretly selected for the role, and the "conference" was merely a ploy to lure the Alliance into the Battle of Gilatter VIII.
In his capacity as Supreme Commander, General Phennir adopted a white uniform, echoing the style worn by officers of the Galactic Empire he had previously served—appearing similar, if not identical, to the attire of an Imperial Grand Admiral.
At the Unification Summit in 43 ABY, Phennir's presence alongside Natasi Daala and Jagged Fel as the Confederation's representative indicated that, similar to the Imperial Remnant, the Supreme Commander functioned as a de facto, if not de jure, head of state for the Confederation.
