She achieved the rank of lieutenant and served as the first officer on the Black Talon, a Gage-class transport ship. This vessel was captained by Revinal Orzik, a Captain known for being highly subordinate. Given his constant presence on the bridge during flights, Sylas was tasked with the reception and care of passengers and distinguished guests.
In the year 3643 BBY, the supply ship was operating on the route connecting the Vaiken Spacedock with the Imperial homeworld of Dromund Kaas. At this time her commander received instructions from Grand Moff Rycus Kilran to intercept the Republic warship Brentaal Star and eliminate an Imperial defector. Orzik, deeming this impractical, ignored the order and maintained course for Dromund Kaas. Learning of battle-hardened passengers aboard, the Grand Moff, through his protocol droid NR-02, who was also present on the ship, attempted to persuade the captain to comply with the mission or relinquish command of the transport. Sylas, responsible for personally greeting all distinguished guests, was instructed to direct these battle-hardened individuals to the captain without being informed of the true purpose. During the voyage, while Sylas was on the navigation bridge, it was stormed by these guests and NR-02, leading to a confrontation with Orzik.
