Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Redemption 1: A Gathering of Jedi is the inaugural comic book in the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Redemption comic series. Dark Horse Comics released it on July 22, 1998.
Hoggon's starship lands on Yavin 4, a jungle moon, and descends to the surface. Hoggon recounts to Ulic Qel-Droma, the former Jedi Knight, the events that transpired there at the conclusion of the Great Sith War, but Ulic is only able to perceive specters, notably that of his deceased brother, Cay. Ulic, haunted by his participation in the conflict, informs Hoggon that the location is unsuitable.
On Ryloth, numerous Twi'leks are seen fleeing from a violent heat storm, and the Jedi Tott Doneeta does all he can to provide help. He attempts to use the Force to quell the storm, but it overwhelms him, leaving burns on one side of his face. Instead of resting to recover from his injuries, he declares his departure for the Great Jedi Convocation.
Master Thon arrives at Exis Station, where he meets Vima Sunrider, who is now a teenager. They are soon interrupted by Sylvar, a Cathar Jedi, and the two Jedi depart from Vima to attend the convocation that has already begun. As Nomi speaks, Vima becomes bored and decides to leave to pilot a mining vessel.
While flying, Vima is caught in a magnetic loop, which disables her ship and forces her to eject. Tott Doneeta, who arrives late for the convocation, rescues her. Upon their return to the station, Nomi questions her daughter's actions, asking how she expects to become a Jedi with such reckless decisions. Vima retorts that if Nomi spent more time training her, she would have been able to escape the situation herself.
Elsewhere, Hoggon's ship arrives at Rhen Var's icy surface. Ulic declares his satisfaction with the location upon landing.
