Multiple iterations of this document saw the light of day. One of the initial versions carried the designation Document Number T358723Q993D. Another version was known as Document Number V492771R225Y, with its revised edition being labeled Document Number V492771S18DQ.

Put together by Captain Mordaph Clafdatha together with Lieutenant Jord Kraas, it served as a concise introduction to the capabilities and technical details of specific Rebel and Imperial starships. Commissioned under the orders of Darth Vader, the main goal of the document was to meticulously record the strengths and weaknesses inherent in these vessels, enabling Imperial starfighter pilots to adequately prepare for engagements against them. However, the document's creators failed to receive the cooperation they hoped for from their peers. After being denied access to the Imperial Navy's records and files, they abandoned their requests, which resulted in an incomplete final report.

A preliminary copy of the document, identified as T358723Q993D, was stored within a concealed compartment aboard the Imperial CR90 corvette named Talon. However, Keyan Farlander managed to seize it during a raid just as an officer was about to destroy the data disks. Alliance Intelligence successfully salvaged and reconstructed portions of the data, and a printed copy was subsequently provided to Farlander.

Numerous Imperial and Rebel starfighter pilots, including individuals like Farlander and Maarek Stele, dedicated time to studying this manual as part of their training regimen.
